The larger of these is an '85 and has a regular Tange MTB tubing sticker and two bottle mounts on the downtube. The smaller one is an 86, doesn't have a tubing sticker, and has one bottle mount on the downtube and one on the seattube.

The 86 came with a wheelset with suzue sealed-tech hubs (I thought they were supposed to be cartridge bearing from reading elsewhere, but these are just the sealed tech version). The 85 came with a nice Saturae X28 rim/Specialized cartridge bearing hub wheelset, but I'm thinking that was an upgrade along with the bullmoose bars. Otherwise, they were both stock but the crankset and the rear derailleur on the 85 were both broke.

I have a theory that frames manufactured in 1985 were sold as a 1986 model year. My frame serial number indicates a late 1985 manufacturing date and there is a review for the Apex in the March/April 1986 Mountain Bike Magazine. Weirdly, that review mentions the Tange Infinity MTB tubes, but besides my frame, I've never seen one online or in person with Infinity.

Nice bikes, but I already have too many and I have a Cimarron and Terra Runner already that cover this territory.

Anybody (local) need one of these frames? One is 19.5" and the other is 23", would be great for a dropbar conversion.
If I hadn't JUST got a 22" 1992 Trek 8000 for $20 (friend of my bro, so couldn't take it for free) I would definately inquire about the larger frame. The biggest issue with the Trek is a missing odd-size quill stem (25.4mm quill diameter for a 1 1/8" threaded steerer tube), but I just found one on line today at Nashbar. Probably going to upgrade a few other things, but this bike looks like a real winner.

I cleaned up this 1990 Stumper. A local bike shop wants to buy. Any thoughts on what it's worth? Less than 300 miles of street riding but has set for 20 years. thanks,

Found this matte kryptonite green Rincon on good old craigslist. I think it's a 1998 model.

Thanks Dan, kept putting the slash in the wrong place.
Regarding paint, Didn't they?? Somehow the paint jobs always seem to hold up very well over the years, or the owners never rode the shine out of them.

There was just a post in the ridiculous eBay thread about a bike like this in Idaho. I perused catalogs and settled on 1992 Stumpjumper Comp (a step up from base Stumpjumper that year). It was in near virginal condition just like yours but the other one still had orig tires. Dudes musta been ashamed to roll out on their big pink MTBs BITD

Like I said in the other thread, I personally wouldn't take less than $400 but I like 1990s mtbs way too much. Try to hold out for $300 if your market will bear. I think the other one was posted for $350, which seems like a good asking price to me.

Looks like it came in 25.5, or XXL, according to bikepedia.

New addition to my stable: Rocky Mountain Fusion 1990

Hey guys!

I was searching the classified ads for some spare parts to upgrade my old not-so-beater, a 1997 Rocky Mountain Whistler which has seen great use in the last decade as my commuter/mountain bike/adventure racing bike/road bike, in sleet, rain, sun and snow. I am planning on turning it into a great touring machine, but what makes me doubt it is that it always was a tad bit on the big side for me. It's a 17.5" and a 16 or 16.5 would have been better for me. I used to be kinda comfy on it but I never rode more than 90 km on it. So I was looking to get an as-nice frame somewhere and see which of those would fit best.

I stumbled upon a very nice, completely original and almost unused Rocky Mountain Fusion (tires were still having those little brand new rubber spikes), which the owner sold for 50$. Wasn't too bad because I just flipped an older 1976-or-so Peugeot in 56 cm that I found in the trash, for 45$. It was in dire need of love and I had not enough interest into rebuilding it, and knew nobody that would profited into rebuilding it.

So I still don't know if I'll butcher it to gave its parts to my RM Whistler, make it my touring bike, or keep it as is 'cause it's really perfect! Not pristine, but not too far!

Took it for a small test ride yesterday, before my canoe practice. I guess my backpack full of tools/stuff didn't help, but oh boy does this crankset is hard on my legs: 28-38-48 makes for arduous climbs! And since here in Qc city, it's only hills.... Still I'm quite used of pedalling with huge plates (I have a 1989 Shimano 105 crank on my road bike, 52-42), but I guess yesterday I was tired!

i'm guessing your lowest gear is 28x30.. that's not low enough to climb?

great score for $50

Yes, another Giant Cadex. They won't seem to die. I just started riding it again, but I don't know where the easy trails are. It doesn't shift very well either its more bike-hiking for me.

What is a good web site to get seat tube sizes or fork steerer tube diameters?
