You're Manitou is not unique in that. They pretty much all do. One time I was offered a repaired Manitou FS. I didn't take it, but the seller hadn't much difficulties with finding a buyer for it.

1992 Rockhopper. Same as my first real bike I got in college, except has a suntour x1 drivetrain. Mine was shimano. This one has orig tires, replaced derailleur, and "upgraded" to grip shift. Solid and in great shape. $90. Nostalgia is a killer. This is my Xmas gift from wifey.

Just sold these two. '89 LeMond and '91 StumpJumper to collectors. They've been posted before.

new guy here...I finally got through reading this entire thread. there's some great bikes on here!
anyways, I picked this Norco up from a user on here last week and really love it! I had to make a few small adjustments and clean some things, but otherwise it's pretty great.
here's some pics of it when I got it home:
I got the Norco because I wanted an old MTB for a commuter/bum around ride. I've had old road bikes a lot, but they're everywhere. and you just don't see too many vintage MTBs around. I've decided that if anything, I may strip it and paint it to keep the rust down, replace the shift cables and housings and just rock it as it is. I threw on a wider set of bullmoose bars that he threw in because the ones that were on there were really skinny. these are much better. but now the front shifter cable is too short, so I'll have to replace that soonish.
I rode it Saturday morning for about 17 miles...7 miles of gravel to & from the trail and two laps on our local dirt. the thing rode great! other than needing to tighten the hub bolts a few times and the Walmart saddle sucking the big one, I loved it! gonna replace cables and housings, throw on a Brooks and not look back.
anyways, I just wanted to say hi, show you my new ride and see if anyone has any info about it. I've been trying to learn by reading the forums, but Norcos aren't really mentioned much...anywhere. any info would be appreciated.

Fork and frame actually.
Interesting. If I could be sure it wouldn't happen again I might get it fixed. Then there's replacing the elastomers in the fork with something else...a 1-1/4" fork would be hard to find.

An example of a repurposed Mongoose rigid MTB (a 1995 IBOC) from just before they called it quits and sold out to a WalMart-level production shop. I use it as my commuter/utility/get-around-town bike. Geez, they made some great BMX/MTB bicycles back in those days.

Nice IBOC. Sometimes I've thought about drop barring mine but I think I've found a different MTB frame to do that with. My 1996 gets to wear fenders and semi-slicks all winter then back to trail riding mode come July or so. If I ever find a cheap loop-stay IBOC I might have to grab one of those too, even though I hear they're heavier than mine.

Cool, another Mongoose still on the road (trails?). Mine stays on the street, need to get some bigger tires for the looks (current are 26 x 1.5, gonna go to 2.0's). Trail riding for me is the Trek 8000 back a few pages in post 2825.

more details please! Like kind of crank and chain rings and tensioner. Are you running a 3 speed using the cranks? How is it working? I once set up an 8s alfine with a triple for a customer with the disclaimer that it was not recommended. I have no idea how it worked out for him, but it was fun to set up.

Cranks are Caramba with a Caramba machined one piece double chainring, Salsa granny bolted on. Yup, 3x1...I've wanted to try it for a while, and it worked suprisingly well: no walking and no excessive spinning. I have the shifter set on friction mode and it seemed fine, but I do need to fiddle it a bit to get it just right.
A few detail shots just for the heck of it:
As far as the frame goes, it was a unicorn or sorts for me. Took quite a while to get my hands on one. Neville Cork was a one man shop out of North Carolina who made some really cool stuff. Not sure what ever happened to him, but I've been trying to track him down for a while with no luck so far.
The build is a bit eclectic (no Shimano parts) and the full rig weighs in at 22 1/2 pounds of pure fun.
