The brazing on those Arvon frames is fabulous.

That said, NOTHING can compare to this Ritchey! Aemmer, you've done true homage.

Don't think I've ever seen the moto-levers all polished out like that. Came like that or lots of elbow grease? I like em either way.

I can agree on the Arvon brazing work as I get to see it up close, and where things get hot and naked all the time, and have seen some naked Ritchey frames that also show some outstanding work.

What stands out even more with Tom's work is the incredible production numbers.

Not vintage, but it is steel! I just dropped my Vicious Cycles Metal Guru off for fresh decals, paint, and disc conversion. I'll be able to pick it up in about a month, and then the build starts

I was pretty adamant about not over polishing anything. Took apart, and scrubbed the heck out of every component with lots of soap and water before it was mounted on the frame, but really wanted it to look proper for 81 and not too shiny. As tempting as it was to take a few of those silver bits to the buffer nothing on the bike was polished. Unique thing about those Magura's is they have a two bolt clamp. Every other set I have only has one clamp. This got in the way of the Suntour thumbies which forced me to mount the thumbies inward even more to clear. Not a problem for me, I have big hands. There are risers available that will bring the shift levers higher off the bar and would probably clear the brake lever mount. Not sure if Kelly and Fisher were short on the other style the week this was made or what.

Single:

Sorry got carried away comparing different Magura levers and figured I might as well share. Not sure why I end up with those but not one set of Tomaselli's..

My 1992 purple to blue fade, with a bunch of upgrades. New Bontrager saddle, FSA seat post, Salsa bars, Vintage ergo grips, STX thumb shifter/brake combo, upgraded to LX rear derailour, SPD clipless pedals. It's steal and heavy, but a great riding bike.

I have a '93 Mongoose IBOC with Rockshox Mag 21 that I purchased new and have toured with twice in Europe. It's distinguishing feature is the "Nutcracker" top tube. Rear triangle is a bit radical. Bullet proof frame..Picture later , maybe. If I can upload it.

Wow, that is cool. Did that really come with a brazed on carrying strap?

Thanks guys, yes the truss is original to the frame. It's for shouldering the bike up too-big hills I think. A friend of mine has a 1970's Gitane cyclo-cross frame with the same design.

Here's my '92 Rockhopper Sport. Buttery smooth and IMHO, not all that heavy. Amazing how much a suspension fork weighs.

Alright drop bar thread,

I have this fat chance:

And a full tricolor [sti] group. I'm approaching the critical mass of boredom to go ahead and do this. One question though: Are brifters a faux pas on a drop bar conversion?

hear hear! They certainly make sense on a MTB if you plan on going off-road. More sense than DT shifters (which are ok too!)

Picked this up last weekend - 1994 KHS Montana Comp. Mostly original; I changed the saddle, tires, stem, and grips. The frame, made with True Temper AVR tubes, weighed in at 4.45 lbs. That makes it the lightest steel frame I have ever owned - which includes Tange Prestige, Ultimate Ultralight, and Reynolds 853 tubed frames.
