WheelTired, just a outstanding collection & thank you for posting pictures of your awesome rides, what I would give to work on some of those let alone ride them.

I wanted to show off a Diamond Back Sorrento I just finished, originally I was going to keep this as I loved the colors but it is a little on the small side for me. I picked it up off of CL about 3 years ago missing a lot of parts & my original plans were going to be Deore LX 9spd & as much purple anodized parts as I could find put on it.

Since I am selling it I made it 8spd & only put a few of the purple bits I gathered ( I have 2 more bikes that are going to be loaded with it ). The bike rides awesome the way it is and it came out a lot better then I thought it would.

Glenn

Look into locating some Odyssey Pitbull brakes. They're out there.

Thanks IthaDan for the reply! I have used a bunch of Odyssey brakes over the years, the Pitbulls were great and the Pitbull II sucked, but I've never seen one that has a single center bolt on a mounting plate. If you have a source or an image, please forward it to me or post it for all as I'm sure that'll help others with braking issues on Klunkers.

Thanks again!

You know I have a few NOS Pitbulls but never even tried to put them on a 26" wheeled bike only 20" BMX, they would be useful if they fit as I have a few Klunker builds in mind.

Surly makes the re-released Instigator as a 26+ platform. It's called the Instigator 2.0. Check it out.

Oh, no problem feelin' foolish as I gave up that self-deprecating behavior years ago thanks to champs like you!

What I wrote was specific to you as I figured you had used a Pitbull brake on a Klunker build and I was hoping you would post a photo of a Klunker from your nice collection of bikes. As I said, I've used both of the Pitbull models as well as others that did the same basic function, I wasn't looking for a gang of Googled images and some smarta$$ fooking reply.

Do feel free to go pound sand and thanks for the attempt to be helpful and hilarious... good for a big fat middle finger right back at 'ya!

What?

You asked for an image of a pit bull brake with a single center bolt on a mounting plate. All of those have a single center bolt on a mounting plate. To that point, I've never seen a pit bull brake that WASNT attached by a single center bolt.

What difference does it make if the wheels are 20" or 26" in diameter?

I didn't pick up on the desire to see such brakes on a klunker in your other post, myself.

No need for all the fuss, guys. I think I read fine that neo_pop wanted to put them on a klunker, and I think it's perfectly logical to ask for pics of klunker set-ups, since tire size and brake bridge placement is different on those.

I guess I'm just confused- "BMX" calipers are used all the time on mountain bikes. What would be different about a bolt on roller cam that has been designed to attach to the frame where traditional side pulls do?

Ok, well maybe he just wanted to see how these specific calipers look on an MTB and like he said he thought you had a bike equiped with them (not a weird thing to assume, given your nice and varied collection of all kinds of off-road bikes). But I'm not really here to speak for neo-pop off course, I just don't like it when harsh words are traded between two regulars in good standing

Thanks! yes I tend to think its an '87 as well but have not been able to confirm absolutely. I really like that bike, during the week it sports road tires and a rack. I've been through a lot of commuter bikes in the last couple years and the Apex is the keeper, I've probably put at least a couple thousand miles on it in the last six months or so. Super fun and durable on intermediate trails as well.

Fair enough. Guess I was put on my heels when I was asked to forward it to him. I read some ego behind that. Probably shouldn't have projected.

Either way, I'm curious to see if this gets tried as a possible solution. I had a bmx with a pitbull brake way back when. I wonder what happened to it... When I broke the frame, the new frame had canti mounts, so it was relegated to the partsbin.

Hmm.

you can determine the year by the serial number.. usually the SN starts with a letter and then a number.. that number after the first letter is usually the production year. You can generally follow the same formula for Centurion serial numbers since both Centurion and Diamondback were owned by the same company. The info to decode Centurion #s is pretty easy to find using google

Still trying to track down some original parts I wore out and trashed. Thanks for reminding me what it was like when I first got it!

Ha- That's funny IthaDan, after reading through this page, I felt the same about myself! I certainly could have and should have been more clear in what I was specifically asking for with regard to the Pitbull brake on a Klunker. I recalled you had posted previous about BMX stuff back in the day, I was optimistic that you had used a Pitbull brake on a Klunker build. I used the now discontinued Tektro brake post plate on my '82 Diamond Back Klunker. I too ran Pitbull brakes on some of my BMX bikes, it never crossed my mind to use that brake set up on any of my Klunker builds. I've just begun another, I'm going to track down some Pitbulls and see if I can't make it work.

I certainly hope there are no hard feelings and I apologize for not being more understanding. As I stated in previous threads, your stable (from what I've seen posted) is one to be envied and I'm still waiting for you to pull all the bikes out and get the photos taken so we can see it all together as WheelTired has shared.

Thanks Italuminium for the running go between, I appreciate you taking the time, thanks!
