How are you liking the fsr? I ride mine all the time still although with this giant and my litespeed it won't be ridden quite as often this year. Do you have pics of it? What did you end up doing with the atx 990? Still have it? Could possibly part with it? Haha

I haven't gotten the FS-R on the trail yet. We still have 2 feet of snow in the woods, but more importantly, I don't have a shock pump, therefore the damping on the rear shock is at zero so the bike pogos badly. Hoping to get some time in when the trails are dry and the shock is sorted. I've been hoping a Risse Genesis in 5.5" will show up on ebay.

That is a sweet ride. Taking these older, good quality MTBs and making upright cruiser/hybrid bikes has breathed some health into my flipping. For a minimal investment you can double your money and provide/save a good bike too! I can get a bike or 2 each week and sell them almost as fast as I can work them.

Here's a Sekai Bigfoot that I bought for $40! Based on the components and the research I've done I am guessing it's a 1983-1984. Had original cables rusted inside the housing. It has Suntour Alpine Gear Tech front & rear derailleur, Sumo 26 x 1.75 rims, SR Laprade seat post, Tourney GS cranks, Victor 747 "bear trap" pedals, Suntour ratchet thumb shifters, DiaCompe brake levers and cantilever brakes, Shimano rear high flange hub & sunshine high flange front hub. Has a great bi-plane fork. This is the first bike I have ever taken completely apart. I did it piece by piece, degreased, polished, reinstalled and had great fun. I cleaned/repacked headset, wheel hubs, pedals, freewheel and bottom bracket - Phil Wood grease and new ball bearings. I even took the shifters apart, cleaned & reassembled. Of course it got new brake pads, cables/housings and different tires. I added an old Brooks Honey B67, Sunlite black foam grips, and ended up switching out the DMR Supermoto tires for Panaracer Paselas in 26 x 1.75. I have since added Planet Bike clip on fenders and a black rear rack. I removed all the rust with Naval Jelly and 0000 steel wool and clear coated spots that were bare metal. Don't ask why, but I love this bike.

@Thumpic, thanks for the compliment. Portland Metro is a hot bike market and even really poor quality bikes seem to go for $200 or sometimes more. I was really lucky to find this one across the river in Vancouver (Washington state). It was a rust bucket in the sense that every thing that could get rusty was rusty - not super deep rust, but it took more than 60 hours of taking apart, cleaning, derusting, reassembling....of course I'm inexperienced so it took longer because of that too, but there was rust everywhere. Interesting, I think, that the handlebars seem more like BMX type bars. I guess initially bike companies weren't sure how popular MTB biking would be so they tended to use parts they were already producing, like BMX parts.
I should post pictures of my Fuji Sundance 1986 with roller cam brakes!

Here is a 1986 Fuji Sundance ATB that I purchased from the original owner for $150. She was happy to see it go to someone who was interested in keeping it and giving it a little love. I replaced all cables/housing, brake pads, tires and installed a Brooks B17 Special that I had. I cleaned and repacked wheel bearings, headset, bottom bracket and even the freewheel. The freewheel actually has a couple of broken teeth, so I ordered a Suntour XC 6 speed. I won a vintage Jim Blackburn silver rear rack that now lives on the bike. The rollers on the roller cams are not the Derlin, but what look to be brass? The springs are housed inside the brown nuts on the front, not on the rear like some models.

Nice olde 'goose!
Now, taking a couple of steps down the Vintage MTB ladder, my new summer coastie, Free Spirit All Terrain. I'm hoping to get a somewhat decent BMX crank on there this weekend.

@ Aemmer, Oooh. What did you scoop? I'm always trolling CL Portland these days. If you bought it I likely saw it. I have 5 bikes & not in the mood for a huge project, and don't really need another.....unless of course I sell one to make room.

That said, The serial number makes this one of the first 150 or so bikes RS made. Certainly a grail bike for what I seek.
Sellers pic. I haven't taken any yet. Unfiled fillet brazing.
Next stop is to find an early Ibis.

@Aemmer, I'm eager to see your photos and read a detailed write up. I don't think I saw that bike. It would have aroused my attention, given that it's a name I've never heard of. I'm glad you were able to get it. Was the seller aware of the provenance of the bike? I'm only assuming yes. Definitely post more photos when you're ready.

Sweet find for that price - great find. That would make a great tourer with the lowrider fork mounts.

I haven't seen my own bike, Breezer #2 in maybe 20 years, but it is coming home soon to Fairfax when the MTB Hall of Fame opens in its new location. After Breezer #1 , which is now in the Smithsonian collection (along with my race jersey and Repack poster art), Breezer #2 is the second most collectible bike in the world.
Here it is when I took delivery in 1977.
