Still a work in progress, by took my first little stroll with the new seat tonight, now I understand why they cost so much........ Just need to get the appropriate seat bag and matching handlebar bag, a front rack, and make the switch to metal fenders...........

Picked this up for $20 NZ after the trader hearing we got robbed, tried to get me to keep all the $40 NZ but I could not so we did a $20 split.
Bought to supply parts for the '87 I am building up, but it is so nice and original I am going to keep it complete.

Worst thing is the hardest bit too find here in NZ is the Diacompe U Brake, really hard to find, I have not even found a Shimano one. I could buy another bike when it comes up but will probably then keep that too!!??

At the 1st bike shop I worked at the Manager ordered an '86, and got one of the first ones out of the Greenville, MS factory. Forest green, and sweet as well!

Thank's bconneraz. Yes it is a blackburn mtn rack. I do like it as well, the flat plate on top is a bit bent out of shape, I straightened it up some though and it will work great for hanging commuter pannier bags.

I'm finally getting around to posting this showroom clean Nishiki Cascade. It is a tad too small for me and I originally purchased it for donor parts on another drop bar build. After I saw how nice and original it is I can't bear to touch it. I may post it in the for sale thread instead of having it hid in my garage.

The color matched bull moose bars are so nice.

Yes very nice looking Nishiki, badger! I like the little lug at the top of the fork. The brake cable hangers are interesting as well.

This whole thread is awesome, one of the best on bike forums IMO.

Here's a mostly-stock 1994 Univega Alpina 5.3* I picked up on CL for not a lot of money. I took these pictures after I washed most of the mud and garage gunk off of it. The frame could still use a polish and a waxing, as well as some touch-ups. It has some drivetrain issues now that need attention. I wouldn't mind keeping it as a 21 speed, but if the STX Rapidfire Plus pods are truly shot, then I've always wanted a single speed mtb

Turky lurkey and frantic - thanks for the nice comments. The XC triple wheel RD is the prime piece I wanted to use on the Panasonic ATB I plan to build up but I would rather live without it than take it off the Cascade. It doesn't have a barrel adjuster so I don't think it will work for the index shifting I'm planning for the Panasonic anyway.

This thread needs a serious bump, so I guess I'll do the honors. I just completed my 1986'ish Ross Mt. Hood this morning. The bike needed a good amount of love when I picked it up this spring. I stripped it down to the frame, removed the rust with brass brushes and aluminum foil, polished, and waxed the frame. All of the parts were cleaned and polished as well. The saddle, grips, freewheel, stem/bars, tires, and brake levers are from my parts bin. It's got new brake pads, cables/housing, and chain. The build went pretty well except for the stripped inner chainring bolt head (removed with screw extractor), and missing inner chainring bolt/spacer (made a spacer to match by filing down a larger one). There is also a broken bolt in one of the rear rack mounts which will stay there for now as the bolt is hard and I can't get the drill bit to stay centered without risking ruining the chrome. I can always mount a rack to the brake bridge if I want to install one.

The bike isn't totally original, I didn't like the original stem, and had this 21.1 mm quill slingshot stem/bars that I've been dying to use. The original brake levers take a 6mm cable with a non standard end that is difficult to find and expensive, so I went with some Dia Comp old school levers I had. I've kept the original parts in case I want to go back to them. I'm not one to use this word too often, but this thing is rad. Hope you all like it.

I posted my small '84 Stumpjumper Sport above, well I ended up selling it at a nice profit. However, I miraculously came across a great deal on another one yesterday. The second one is in much better condition and appears to be all original with a few additions. It really is a time capsule, and will be beautiful after a little polishing. I thought I would never see another one of these with 24" wheels again. My wife insists this bike is permanently hers and I agree, here it is as found:

Holy...! Rad is indeed the word.

Is that the original finish on the U-brake, or did you strip off an anodized layer? (The Deore XT, M731 on my '88 Klein is black.)

@turky lurkey: thanks, nice score on that Stumpy. Some guys have all the luck.
@retrofit: Thanks man. The brakes are actually Suntour roller cams and were non anodized, so they polished up nicely with mother's mag/aluminum polish. The brass rollers were black, the mother's made quick work of them.
