I love the Barracuda. I also have a 1994 AM2 with the same anodized blue parts. I just built a NOS blue anodized Velocity rim to a blue bontrager hub (same color and was a freebie), purple Wheelsmith spoke nipples, and black DB spokes. Thanks for inspiring me to finish it up, and props on the Onza tires.

Does your cuda rear brake cable rub on the frame? It's the only thing I find strange on mine. The Onza's are really legit on mtb builds.

I just finished refurbishing an 87 Univega Rover Five.
It has classic 80s ate/mtb geometry(identical geometry to a Peugeot Black Rock), but is just a 5 speed.
Pretty low end, really, but the color and funkiness caught my attention.
What was really a trip is that I bought it from a deaf mute and didn't realize such until halfway thru a strained negotiation!

This was a total strip down and rebuild. New tires, grips, and housing, but everything else is original.
A ton of rust removal and magic eraser use to get rid of frame scuffs.

The bike is a blast to ride. It's slow steering, but fun.

mid 80s raliegh elkhorn mountain tour. 25 bucks at thrift store is in the process of being converted to a cruiser ish type of concotion. i know but its for my mom all she needs is three gears for getting to the corner store and bar and such.

1996 Amp Research B4

She'll be 20 soon. I bought this off a friend in Colorado just a couple years after he bought it new, but rarely rode it. It was my first (and has been my only) dual-suspension bike; he let me testride it once, where I took it up my favorite trail, and I fell in love: I could go up more technical bits that I couldn't do on my DBR hardtail, I suspect because I was getting better traction with the rear wheel staying in contact with the ground.

While it only now occasionally gets a bash through Dublin's city streets, I am still loving the light weight (@23lbs) and "cool factor" of the linkage front forks (which are also super-light).

I've replaced the standard rear shock with a Risse unit; and after bending the rear chainstay when a stick got caught up in the chain/derailleur, that too has been replaced. I went tubeless and never had any problems, and the tyres are a massive 2.1". SRAM 9.0 rear derailleur (XT front der.), SRAM 9.0 V-brakes and shifters. I've done most all the regular maintenance (though I had the LBS replace the XT headset which was frozen in place), but maybe next year I'll do a total rebuild and it'll be my "winter project".

Here are a couple of photos of my crome moly Trek 1995, The stem was cracked so it came off, then the forks, added shoxs etc, so off came the centre pull brakes & added Vee brakes & levers from an old 1990 Trek 800 I was scrapping, took off carriers as well.

Its really responsive to use.

Not vintage, just old. Not a classic, either. Here is my 2002 Trek 820st high atop Avalanche Mt overlooking Boyne City and Lake Charlevoix. The 820 is doing what it was designed to do, get me up the hill in winter and get me back. The "safely" part is up to me.

1993 Marin Palisades Trail, 22in frame for the BD in us all. Needs an overhaul but the color caught my eye. I remember these bikes but never rode one. Tange cromo, assume Taiwan produced with Shimano Altus hardware.

edit first shot shows post rehab 24 hours from pickup. Needed true/tune, new chain then parts from beater box. 1.5 hour test ride and it performed flawlessly for the age. Size makes it a bit heavy on climbing and geometry is more like a cross bike but great rider for 23+- year original more or less.

Just picked up a Mongoose IBOC Comp SX from the local collective. Brand new from '94, never been built up. They had a handful of frames come in a couple weeks ago- raleigh mixtes, schwinn varsity, and some mongoose mtb frames and all were new from the 80s and 90s.

This originally had RSX or Deore LX components depending on the year and was made from 94 thur 96.




They had a Mongoose Tange chromoly frame too, but this was a higher model that year and i havent owned an aluminum frame before, so i went wild and bought the new fangled frame material.

Itll be a build for later in the year- probably a rigid fork and ill scrounge up a bunch of mid level components.
Cant wait!

Fellow hoarder is trying to move this 8700 (1994?), so far firm at 200 and with original parts probably fmv around here but cash poor now and no trade he wants currently. May pull the trigger anyhow and deal with fallout later, not going to see another one around here anytime soon.

I just snagged this mid 90's Tequesta this morning. I am going to un-gum the shifters, lube the hubs and headset, and install new cables. It will be good as new. Red cables maybe? I may have finally found a recipient for my Race Face turbine cranks. LOVE the Titanium looking paint.,,,,BD
