Was that rear disc adapter a Cannondale piece or did you have it made for you and you drilled the holes in the stay? Curious because '92 is way too early for discs!

In this close-up photo, look at the bottom side of the rear brake caliper.
There is a black tooth-shaped section attached to the silvery metal of the caliper-
it has a stick-on label that reads "Shark Tooth".

That's what I was referring to.
I think it is just supposed to be a cool gimmick.

No, it's an adapter from a company called Sellution Components. It's actually for a GT (I think) but works well on a SuperV with 1 added hole on the dropout.

I have that too on one of my bikes, '87 Ponderosa with the same brakes. First time I saw it, thoughts were it was some mud/dirt deflector.

That makes sense--- to deflect mud from the chain before it runs through the derailleur.

There is not one on my '87 Rock Hopper, with the same brake caliper in the same position.

Super excited to get this on the road: a 1985 Specialized Stumjumper. I got the frame on the Internet Auction Site as an impulse buy. It was in rough shape, but I was feeling particularly ambitious that day. I had also been accruing old XT parts and needed something neat to hang them on. Also, I can't turn down anything with chrome.

It had a broken cantilever stud on the fork, several small dents on the downtube, and needed paint. A Problem Solvers canti repair kit fixed the fork, I can live with the little dents, and I did a terrible job with heavy duty "industrial coating" paint and a paint pen to outline the lugs.

The components are XT and XTR bits of varying vintage, with a Deerhead shifter. I was planning on running this as a 2x9, but I had the 1x10 stuff on hand and thought I'd give it a try. The Deerhead shifter works pretty perfectly with the wide-range SunRace 10 speed cassette. Really - if you haven't tried friction shifters on a 10 or 11 speed, you owe it to yourself. Super smooth. I'll still probably run this as a 2x9 in the future, just to get the other shifter on there.

I'll be putting on some Maxxis DTH tires to finish this up, and probably keep an eye out for a black sprung Brooks. The SR slingshot stem is super rad, but if I can find a black alloy riser stem I'll probably swap that out, too, so I can run with a modern wide bar. So far, though, it's a rad way to get to work. Can't wait to shred some Florida sand on this thing.

Yep, that's an 11-42 10 speed cassette and a 42t ring. I had the same ratio on a 700c bike and was worried that it might be a little high for the trails, but 26" wheels make a real difference. Low and slow!

Shimano made both a "Shark Tooth" which was to prevent chain suck with chain stay mounted u-brakes and a "Shark Fin" which was a chain stay protector.

I was thinking that the Shark Tooth was a Specialized product, it is obviously a Shimano creation.
Your Klein Pinnacle is similar to the Specialized Stump Jumper.

I graduated from MPC in 1976. Grew up near the Fairgrounds & airport. Miss the climate, used to ride my Peugeot everywhere, didn't need a car for years.

Got this older Norco Bushpilot from the curb other night, cleaned the thick grime off of it and replaced the cracked tires.

I assume its early 90's? has one of them funky paint jobs. its hard to see in pic.

the whole bike is like new. theres maybe one scratch. even has the price tag on frame still.

Hubs. crank gears and brakes are all Shimano Alivio.

I picked up a 1983 vintage Ross Signature that had one of these on it. It looks great on a vintage bike.

I found this Red Giant Iguana on my way home from work one evening. It was leaning against an old fence with a hand written sign, 'if you want this bike take and mail me $10 to this address" so I did. It was quite grimy and dirt but it cleaned up like showroom condition and appeared have been stored more than it was used. I like this bike so much I am riding it more than my modern mountain bike.

I know I just posted this, but I've since dialed it in by converting to 2x7, swapping the bars, and adding Nobby Nics. No stumps to jump on this trail, but it handled Florida mud and sand pretty well. Not a lot of tire clearance on this thing - the Nobby Nics were rubbing under flex so I'll have to go down to a 1.95" tire.

I still have the 1990 Specialized Stumpjumper Comp I bought in '91. Aside from customized paint by Beek's in Toronto, a new saddle and bar ends, the bike is original with all the original Shimano Deore XT components, working great, including the Shark Fin (saw that thread in an earlier post). Even my Cateye ATC still works after 26 years.

Thanks Rob. Was really happy with it (just seemed a fitting paint for a mountain bike) and it has held up well over the years, but then again, Beek's had been painting bikes locally for eons.

Yes, good eye, it is a Monza, '80 Spyder to be specific. Thats why I love it, no one else has one and I can't get parts from any auto store like many other makes and models out there that everyone and their Mother's have.

Great colour on your Stumpjumper, had mine been olive green, it would have stayed that way, I just wasn't a fan of the bright white bike.
