Thanks for that huge scan. I wish mine had the original seat because that looks a lot more comfortable than the one on it right now. It would be a great bike to use for a camping trip.

Thanks for the scans- I have what I think is an '86 Sierra... (frame is stamped with an 86, Cro-Mo main tubes, not DB)

What does the "Black Chrome" look like in person? I would've called mine brown, but First Flight lists the '86 Sierra as coming in only Red and Black Chrome...

Found this one 'round the corner, "Free Bike" sign on it...Trek 830, circa'85. Looks all original, fully functional, comfy as a couch.

This one was in the garage of a house we bought. We brought it along when we moved out. Neither of us really fit on it, so it's for sale on Craigslist. GT Tequesta, circa '90.

This next one was my commuter for a year, and I'm gonna keep it around for rainy days and such. Huffy Sport Series, circa ?, 21 speeds, 38 pounds

What year is your bike? (Check the headbadge for a light, four digit stamping -- the first three will be the ordinal day of the year, the last will be the last digit of the year of assembly).

Thanks for that link! Neat seeing the catolog for my old Schwinn Sierra. I really thought I had bought that in 82, but it looks like they didn't make them till 1984. I'll have to get a shot of it from my Brother In Law. It still uses the Bull Moose Bars on it!

You are the man! I have been trying to find the Schwinn Sierra information. I bought one at the Trikes and Bikes for Tykes sale in Kansas City. Most of the original components had been stripped off in the last 21 years. It is the black chrome. The gold decals and stem make mine look like a metalic brown to charcoal.

Thanks for the info, Bob. My father bought the bike (and a matching women's model) new. He took them to a local LBS for a tune up last year and they told him they weren't worth putting money into. Then they sold him a pair of Trek Navigators. Of course, the words "not worth putting money into," have the opposite effect on me, so I drove down and collected the bikes. Stripped the women's frame for parts. It looked a little more like the one in your catalog, except the stem was painted white.

I've really enjoyed the bike. Something about the geometry, I guess, makes it about the most comfortable bike I've ever owned.

Here's a pic of my Peugeot Crazy Horse. I bought it new in 1987 while stationed in Holland. It's all original except for the tires. The poor bike is hardly ever ridden. It needs to be taken apart and regreased. Anyways, enjoy.

Well at least in my case it does. I found this thread about two or three hours ago, yes I have been sitting looking at vintage bike porn for quite some time! Anyway here is my "Ancient One". Way back when, (1986 or 1987 ?) my brother and I had been borrowing friends bikes for nearly the entire summer before we could afford to buy for ourselves. The day finally arrived and off the bike shop we went. Upon are arrival we found to our mutual dismay that the store only had one bike left in our size . They had several two sizes larger and one that was one size smaller. We decided to flip a coin and see who got stuck with the smaller frame. As usual given a 50 / 50 shot I still lost.

It is a Mongoose IBOC Comp with shimano shfters, Avid brake levers, Exage 500 rd and fd, and enough paint scratches to make Ted Nugent envious.




Being young and full of gumption I adapted to the smaller frame. I went on tons of rides and raced, (rather poorly but had a great time) for a couple of years. For three years she was my daily commuter. I eventually rode this little beast for nearly a decade. Throughout the years I have changed out the stem and handlebars numerous times, I had to replace the headset, BB, went through several pairs of tires, a few chains, and about four or five frame pumps. Although I broke several bones crashing the bike never broke too badly, ( a few spokes here and there).

For the last 6 years it was ridden by another brother's two teenage sons. I gotta tell ya "Steel bikes Rule".

I have a 1990 Rocky Mountain Blizzard, LOW serial number, welded in japan, assembled less than 100 feet from my old house in Richmond BC Canada (the old Rocky Mountain factory).

its equiped with:

- old Syncros seatpost 15" long with the hole on the bottom so you can lock it with a U lock

- low serial number Answer ACCU-TRAX rigid fork, with Mountain Cycles Pro-Stop disc brake (the very first one designed for mtb's) with an 10" aluminum rotor, mated to a BULLSEYE hub, laced up to a WOLBER rim, with RINGLE skewers (the original ones)

-Hite Rite seat spring adjuster (large)

- handmade Ritchey stem

- WTB headset locknut, with allen key lock, mated to an Deore XT headset, greased with the original "off highway grease" that Rocky Mountain used for all their bikes back then (i have a tub of it)

- GROVE INNOVATIONS custom made "HOTROD" cranks, 177.5 mm, (only pair sold to Canada), powder coated DayGlo Nuclear Orange, with retrofitted Teflone shield cartridge ceramic bearings.

- Deore Xt LONG brake levers (bike came with shorties, but i like the long levers)

- ONZA chainring

- Deore XT topmount shifters/derailers (taken off to convert to single speed)

- Deore XT U brake, with Brodie machined/drilled out brake booster.

- ROACH cordura top tube protector

- PHIL WOOD freewheel hub with (currently) a white industries 18 tooth singlespeed hub and Phil Wood
stainless steel allen bolts, laced to a MAVIC rim

- platform pedals with homemade Grease Injection system

- Ti-Kit bolt kit

- RINGLE TI anodized purple seat skewer (1990 edition)

- Ritchey "knobbly" grips

the bike USED to have a Syncros flat bar, Syncros Cattleprod stem, Syncros forks, WTB Greasegaurd BB, and Grafton Speed Controllers on the front (still have the Graftons), but i sold the rest of the package off, much to my regret now.
