I feel I must clarify; obviously I was not entirely correct when I said everything was as I raced my '84 Motocruiser... both dr's/screwers and the front brakes/fork are not original. The TA triple & the rear 6 speed and both hubs(ACS),both rims (Sun Mistral's) bottom bracket, headset, seat post/collar, pedals ( Suntour XC II Beartraps) although I did take off the black bear trap horseshoe rings just recently are all as they were when I built it that early summer of '84.

Also an 85 Raleigh Technium Has indexed shifting, ride it all winter, no suspensions.....

I was just looking for this thread the other day. I came across this little gem and just had to give it a good home. it is an '87 Grizzly from the looks of it and the sellers comments it has not seen much use.

I was given this 1984 Fuji Sundance a few weeks back. Based on the catalogs on the Classic Fuji site, it appears to be the very first year that they put out a mtn. bike. This was all original when I got it except for the newer Suntour rear derailleur. I replaced both tubes/tires and put on an old leather Belt saddle that I got off a Fuji S12S. I also replaced the seat post. It has the original foam grips on it that need to be replaced and all the cables and housing as well as the brake pads need to be replaced. Regardless, it rides pretty darn nice the way it is. I've ridden it over 30 miles the past two weeks on dirt roads and single track.

Here is a 1987 Raleigh Elkhorn, it was in very rough shape when I got it but I couldn't resist fixing it up a bit. Updated it to 7 speed Shimano indexing and it works well as a commuter and around town bike now.

Wow ,Good lookin' bike,nice color.I could'nt stand u-brakes when
they were the only brakes available ,but,they do give that bike a nice clean look.Xt rd and thumbies cool ,now that stem is a different story.
My first MTB was an 86' raleigh seneca-it never looked that nice(even with rose colored nostalgic goggles)

For a roadgoing "Hybridized" MTB the U-brake isn't bad. It just wasn't for wet sloppy trail conditions where they serve as jam-a-matics.

Here is my vintage MTB. Its a 94 Stumpjumper FSR Sport. I built it for my dad when I used to work at a shop. He is too old to ride now and I have inherited it. Its actually a really nice riding bike. I but V brakes on it, and I need to put a better fork on it. But its my main MTB now.

blown240-a 94'Judy XC was/is a sweet fork it probably compliments the rear nicely.If you want to upgrade maybe look into an Englund air cartridge,for $100 you would loose weight and increase travel.It would still look"retro"as well.

I agree on the Judy XC. I actually found one for $50. But I may try to return this bike totally to stock.

Its a prototype XC bike that intense never produced. Probably from at least 10-15 years ago. I got it from the brother in law of a guy that used to work at Intense. It needs a new rear shock, but I already have a source for it!

Thanks for all the nice comments... I yanked the u brake off as it gets in the way when I want to flip the wheel over and I do that a fair bit in the winter. I don't really need a rear brake now that I swapped the 18 tooth freewheel for an 18 tooth fixed cog.

I just built up another fixed gear Shasta for a local BF member and my Kuwahara Cascade is undergoing a transformation from a fixed mtb / tourer to a fully geared mtb tourer.

I have LX hubs laced to Mavic 233's with an 8 speed rear, Suntour Cyclone GT derailers, and Bar Cons to install along with a triple with a half step.

Thanks! I saw one just like yours two days ago in a bike rack here on the college campus where I work. I'm always looking for the neat old bikes amoungst the Magnas and Roadmasters. My Fuji hung in the carport at my son's in-laws for years. They talked of tossing it and I was asked if I wanted it. I'd noticed it before but it had so much red dust on it (they live in Sedona AZ which is in red rock country) that I was never able to really check it out closely. I thought it was some type of hybrid or something. I'm currently using it for my commuter and weekend trail rider. Unfortunately the drive side Sugino GT crank arm pedal threads just stripped out yesterday so I'm now beginning the search for a suitable replacement.

Will have to post a picture after my camera is fixed. I have a 1989 KHS "Montana Summit" Triple Butted TANGE lugged and braised frame, LOTS of braze-ons for fenders, racks, 3 bottle cages, Complete Shimano "Exage" group including Bio-Pace crank. She is dark blue (almost a dark purple) with "raspberry" (A.K.A. "hot" pink) head tube, fork, and seat tube.
I found her at a second hand store for $10.00, needing nothing more than a set of tires. She my pride 'n joy, best bike I own.

Does anyone know if the serial numbers on the KHS bikes were/are model specific?

My Paramount PDG 20 mountain bike. I bought this bike new and it has gone thru many different configurations in its life. Now more or less back to classic mountain bike style. I have it running as a 7-speed using an old Suntour thumb shifter. Bars are a little higher for comfort. Nice fat tires are back on it. Ready for a Minnesota winter!

I am not sure if you wish to call it a full suspension but 'Off Road' was making their bikes with the polymer bushings in the seat stays around '90 or so. I think they also switched to the Pro Flex name in about '93

This is a bit overdue...it's a Miele "Aries 650" (?). Maybe mid-late '80's?? (Just a guess, here...) It's got Mountain LX parts, and serves duty as my commuter. Anyone know anything about this model? I couldn't find much info on it...
