Help!do you know anything about 70s dawes chevron racer?

Hi

I've bought an old Dawes Chevron racer which looks a bit knackered but is still a really nice comfy ride. It has 5 speed Huret gears, Weinmann brakes, and is nice and light and very speedy. I think it may have been quite a decent bike when launched (I think it dates from late 70s), but after extensive online searching I can't find any info about it at all. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

I don't know anything about the "Chevron" model, but Dawes is still around and might be able to supply you with some information. I don't know how to post the link, but if you google "Dawes", their web site comes up. My first "good" bike was a Dawes Double Blue that I bought in 1980 and still have.

Nice one, thanks for the help! I have tried asking Dawes and got no response, but maybe I'll ask them again...

Hi guys, I've a Dawes Response from around '94 and I contacted them for more details. Apparently they had a big fire back in '99 and all the records / history was lost and they couldn't help. The bikes stopped being made in the UK a short while afterwards I understand, although I'm unsure it was a direct result of the fire?

If you can post pictures and an equipment list it will probably help date the bike, head badge shots don't hurt either as Dawes used about 3 different types. There are several very knowledgeable members on here that will be able to hit pretty close to a date based on style and equipment. FWIW I have a 1975/76 Dawes Galaxy frameset that is getting built up as a 50's style club racer...one of these days.
