Threaded fork?

Hi, maybe someone can help me out there. I have a large Schwinn Tempo frame I've been trying to find a threaded fork for a while now. My question is; I have a 700c threadless steel fork and I would like like to get the end threaded to fit the Schwinn. Has anybody ever had a threadless fork threaded? Is it worth the trouble? Where can you take it to have it done? My search on ebay for a loooong threaded fork has been fruitless. I could go threadless headset but I wanted to keep the cool vintage look to the bike. Any ideas? Thanks.

If you are sure that it is a steel fork, a reasonably well-equipped LBS can cut it to fit and turn some threads onto it. I bought some old dies from a bike shop that can't find a use for 'em, and do it myself. Gotta worry about 1 1/8" versus 1" as well - gotta be 1"...

can't thread aluminum, don't try, its daaaangerous.

For sure it's a 1 inch and steel. I'll need to drive 60 miles to LBS. Would the purchase of dies for myself be a good idea?
