I saw a QR skewer at the dump last month and dove in; came up with this Huffy road bike. Looks like a typicial X-mart road bike from maybe the late '80s with Shimano DRs and cranks, wierd plastic-clad stamped center pulls and levers, and flattened 'areo' type downtube and seat tube. My first intention was to strip the wheels off it (Weinman rims laced to Malliard hubs) and take the rest back to the dump, but this thing is restorable and somewhat wierd. If it has any collector intrest and you want it, you can have it for shipping from Maine.
If nobody takes it, I'll scrap it next week.

I can't take it (surgery has me off the bike for awhile) but I've seen a few of those Huffys. Late '80s. An attempt to look like a quality bike with halfway decent components (some of the more visible ones anyways) but those crimped tubes are, as the sadly missed sydney would tell you, "gaspipe."

You can scrap with a clean conscience IMHO.

FWIW, the era is 1981-1983. I suspect the components are the unamed, entry level AX components or possibly Adamas AX. Interesting stuff, but not valuable. Too bad, Huffy actually had an aero model that used the Dura Ace AX group.

Adamas and Positron components it is. The BB is American with a three-piece crank. If no one takes this and I part it out I'll put the crank into the 24" Colombia I'm building up for my 7 year old. The wheelset is OK, and will most likely end up on my gaspipe Atala.

(there's nothing wrong with GOOD gaspipe....)

How interesting to come across this thread! I just bought a Huffy Lightwind ladies road bike from Craigslist for the enormous sum of $30.

I have a Biria city bike and a Schwinn Ranger MTB, and wanted a low-cost starter road bike.

Where can I find parts for this bike? The wheels seem to be 24 inch. I presume rubber is available in that size? The rims/spokes look OK.

Any information/resources on this bike would be greatly appreciated.
