All you gotta do is look at the pic of the 531 sticker in the auction to know that it is full 531. The knock on these in my opinion is the lugs and crown are not what one might expect on a 531 frame. I had one of these frames at one time. Never rode it as I was not thinking when I bought it (oh wow...full 531....cheap....buy) and it was too small for me. The headsets that came on these were Delrin IIRC.

This is a Raleigh International. I'm gonna put my ignorance on display here...but I'm confused. I asked the dude and he confirmed that this was a threadless fork. Did they even make threadless forks in the 70s?

It's threaded, thats what the threads at the top of the fork are for.

I know this isn't a ebay or craigslist site, but I always check it out because on occassion there have been some interesting bikes. Usually sold in lots for 30-75 bucks. So, to get one, you have to buy a few Huffys along with what you want.

The only problem is you really have to live in the area because you are expected to pick up your purchase...they won't ship.

It's really odd that he would say that. He knows bikes, judging by his descriptions and the way his pictures show what bike people want to see. Maybe he misunderstood you or he misunderstood him.

I've wanted an International since the '70s, when I worked in a shop that sold Raleighs and Peugeots. I ended up with a Peugeot PX10 just because the boss cut me a better deal on it than he could on the International. I'd bid on that frame if it fit me and I didn't hate the color.

The guy who won the clue Miyata comes here and puts on a show, pretending he didn't get his bike on eBay. What do you guys think is going on?

I read this thread with great glee, as I had a bid in on that auction.

Cinelli Corsa frameset

This caught my eye:

Not being a vintage bike connoiseur - what do you think of this as a good first project bike? Not full restoration -- just as a nice rideable steel bike. What's the max you'd pay? Parts (headset, etc) hard to find? It is pretty.

It'll go much higher than I'd be willing to pay for it ;)

I'd be concerned about the condition of the chrome. The pictures are not clear, but it looked like the chrome was pretty rough.

bcoppola 08-21-06 08:26 AM

As of this posting it's up to $162 and change...more than I'd want to pay, too. And yes, I had doubts about the chrome.

Up to $90 or so I thought...maybe.

I'll stick to garage sales and thrift shops for my first project bike.

Lamplight 08-21-06 04:22 PM

I currently own 3 road bikes, all of which are in good condition. Plus I really can't afford to buy another one. So why am I finding it so hard to resist this?! :D

I have a prestige from a different year (mine is silver and red) and I love it. Rides really nice. If only it were my size.

Cinellis are highly sought after - probably one of the ten most highly regarded vintage lightweights. Don't be surprised if it goes far higher still.

I give you credit for having good taste. :D

Yup, that is a great deal indeedy. Nice.

leunkstar 08-25-06 09:26 AM

this afternoon i saw a pretty nice Superia in my local thrift store. Green color, good condition, mafac brakes and brake levers. Rest I couldnt see (it was positioned in a stand).

The asked 50 euro, no bargaining. A bit expensive right?
