Excellent ride, set up well and I'm glad you got the braking power you need. Those DC levers with the red hoods and the "leader" housing should be great trade bait; red hoods are not often found like that. I agree on the stopping power, they have to be adjusted to about 1/8" each side and hope the wheels are true...Again, pretty bike, one that says "I'm ridden, and I'm good at it."

My wife located the exact same bike as yours, 58-59 cm frame. I can't locate the serial # on it, but I can confirm that what you have is stock. My rims are dark anodized, Wolber Super Champion Alpine. Front forks simply say TANGE. Mine is the same color, and also 700 cm. The tires are white wall panaracer, 115 lbs max inflation.

Its my favorite bike at this time. Not twitchy, a good focused steady platform machine.

And the Facet (aluminum) model that I've not seen in 3 years? 2 showed up today.
21" showed up today in NYC, US-made, so 21" = 53.3cm. Too small for me, has seen some riding, $350 negotiable. Had me ready to go....

I've not heard of a Centurion Triathlon, probably an Ironman Expert. Haven't heard of metallic pink, either. Bars/stem are consistent with Lemans and Lemans RS, the Suntour stuff I've not seen on a Tange 1 frame, but they're good stuff. I'll send you my email to attach pics...then we'll get cooking on this for you. Welcome. I see now you're Down Under, having summer. I last sent parts to Queensland about a year ago, I guess....

Robbie, the serial number for the Triathlon Expert is consistent with the European modesl. I see the OP Is from Australia, so they probably were importing them from Centurion Germany. It should be a 1991 model. By that time the US had gone to Diamondback.

I have removed the fork and on the steerer there is a stamp - TANGE 91E
If this is a date code it backs up the serial number which suggests 1991

Well, I picked up a really tired Centurion today. The crankset is dated August 1976, so I am calling this bike a 1977 model for now. Bike is pretty light weight, with chrome fork and chrome stays and dropouts. The serial number is MF 00194.

Feedback so far is this is probably a 1977 Elite. Crankset may be the only original component on the bike.

While the frame is straight, the paint is shot, a fair amount of surface rust. I explained the condition to the owner, and offered donor pricing, as the wheels, crankset and brakes looked OK. Maybe I'll hang on to the frame and wait for the price of powder coating to drop low enough to make sense. It will get the oxalic acid treatment next time I do a campaign (I have three bikes to treat).

I picked up a '85 Ironman, S/N KF513506 with Shimano 600 components. Needs to have all bearings cleaned and lubed, but it's straight and rides just fine.

As an aside, what tool do I need to service this particular bottom bracket? I'm a complete bike newb, but am no stranger to mechanical bits, and am keen to tear into this bike and do a really good service.

Andy, aside from common tools such as a hex key to remove the dust cap and a socket to remove the crank bolt, you'll need a cotterless crank extractor, bottom bracket lockring wrench and adjustable cup pin wrench. The fixed cup side can serviced from the adjustable cup side, but if you want to go full hog, you can buy a fixed cup wrench too. Park Tools has an excellent site that will walk you though a bottom bracket overhaul, listing all the tools and their required use. I've looked for starfish wrenches to no avail. Shimano headset wrench turns up Dura Ace EX Headset Wrench. Are these the same?

Yes, that's them. The unique design significantly reduces marring, slipping and scissoring. They're a great design. However, in a pinch you can use standard 32mm headset wrenches. Shimano was very smart when they designed these headsets. I was sad to see the design disappear.

Cable kit from Spinz, wheelset & cassette from txvintage, bars and stem from ISO/Trade thread.
Decals from VeloCal, cyclomondo, and from Mexico via eBay
Chorus 2x8 Ergo group from some trades and eBay, saddle via eBay.
No serial number, "56" stamped on Cinelli bb. I kept OEM bb and headset (Ofmega) as they are light.

19.2 lbs. Yeah, I like it.

roccobike has a seafoam and white Centurion, but the Silver would be killer, really make the group stand out.
