Thanks. Spot on with the sizing. The reason the Ironman is single speed is because it's the bike in worse condition. The LeMans RS is dang near perfect. I have all of the 105 components off of the Ironman still for safe measure.

Send me a number if you're interested in letting it go. A friend is looking to get a road bike for triathlons. I think his size will be 57-58, 56 may work too.

I would ideally like to have a 56cm frame multispeed bike, but the likeliness of me finding one in this color scheme will be nearly impossible. I fell in love with it. It's so original, even down to the brake cables. It had sat in an attic for 10 years before I acquired it.

I'm currently selling my 58 LeMans RS, I think it's an '86, thought I don't feel like turning it upside down to check right now. It's been converted to a fixie w/ new wheels but I have all the original Suntour stuff and wheels minus the rear DR which was replaced with cheap Shimano by someone before me. It's green and white.

My LeMans RS is supposedly a '86 according to the serial number. It has all Shimano Light Action vs your Suntour components.

Got any pics of the bike? I'd love to take a gander.

A 54cm was on NYC and Conn CL for a couple of months.
I doubt it ever sold; he wanted $400 and it was below avg condition.

When I bought this bike earlier in the year it had frame stickers that were in awful condition so I removed them. However I remember they said something along the lines of Tange #2 and CrMoly. Sorry for large pictures, photobucket won't resize them for some reason.

I've always thought my black/yellow was an '87, produced in late '86. The Lemans RS was a great value in it's day, and the Lemans outsold the Ironman. Classy bike, several incarnations. I'm not 100% sure (T-Mar may come in and give us the exact info) but I think the Lemans RS about disappeared with Suntour in 1984, and the Elite RS filled that niche until the reintroduction of the Lemans RS in '87. That may not be entirely correct, but the Centurion dealer that was here did not sell both the Elite RS and the Lemans RS at the same time; they were similar bikes with similar capabilities: good all-around bikes with clearance and eyelets, excellent components for the price, and as comfortable running hard in a pace line or in the fledgling sport of triathlons as they were on centuries and day tours.

I think they are both '87's, but I'm often wrong about everything.

I was hoping to get around $400. I guess some would balk at that for 80's steel but that includes both wheelsets (tires, tubes, etc), extra brake lever, etc. Craigslist isn't turning up many bites though :(

It's not going to turn up many bites for that price on CL. You're going to have to find someone that REALLY wants it. Where are you located?

Nice bikes don't last long on CL here in the Dallas area. If you refresh your page, you can see bikes disappear. Also, upon refreshing, you'll see about 2 new bikes pop up every minute. Lol.

I've just checked the seat tube with a set of calipers and its diameter is consistent all the way to the bb shell, other than the thicker wall at the seat stay cluster & clamp area, seen here.

I bought this as a frame only, several years ago. I put on Shimano 600 components from another bike that had a crack. Later got into triathlons and did an ironman (must've been why I got this frame). Currently has 8 speed STI (no picture of this)

I really like this frame. A great compromise betweeen responsiveness and comfort (plus not a fan of the easter egg colors - even in 87)

A guess:

All I know of the history of the bike, is that it was originally purchased by a Thri-Athlethe from Denmark (where the bike is still at). So I would have expected it to have the special Danish serial-number, instead of the generic Centurion number.
Even more so in ligth of the name, which differs from what I have seen on the net so far.

My guess: Centurion made this version for the non-USA market, but the Danish importer didn't import the model. Therefore it was specially imported for the Thri-Athlethe to Denmark. (Maybe by the general importer, maybe by someone else, or maybe he simply bougth it in another country.)

Tange 2 tubing wouldn't necessarily make it a non-Ironman model. The Lemans RS had Tange 2, also, but never had 105.
From the tire clearance, I doubt it has the geometry of the Lemans RS, though the size kind of makes that difficult to say 100%.

My impression is that it is simply a European version of the Ironman Expert, but with Tange 2 tubing. Pretty cool.
