Nope, you might well be right. It was pre-sunrise, we were packed like cycling sardines on the road waiting for the start, and I was in the "max bike-ogling" mode. I had never seen a Serotta in the flesh (so to speak) and I saw six or more on that ride. Steel bikes were otherwise notable in their absence, though. If I do it next year, I might well ride the Ironman instead of my carbon Look.

Not my bike, and it was specifically for a Rails to Trails ride. Forte tires.

Following up, mounted a set of 28 Pasela's and took the Lemans out yesterday for 57 miles our local Rail to Trail (Katy Trail). The fit was good, and I really liked the feel of the wider tires. Thanks again for the advice.

Yeah, I put up photos when I originally built it for the customer. Then after I bought it back I posted it on the local CL to see if anyone would bite during this amazing fall weather we've been having in the DC area. Mr. Howard saw that and reposted it here, not being aware that it was mine, I guess.

It's still a pretty awesome 54cm bike. And yes, the saddle angle was corrected after that picture was taken.

Have a total of five Ironman bikes in the lineup right now (this one, a neat-o 10 speed double '86, a complete MV and two frames) & will be building or refurbing three of them over the winter: a 52cm MV, a 56cm red and white, and a 57cm all-red one that I bought off of Robby last year after he had it powder coated and did a decal job on it.

I'd like to add to the Centurion database.

Serial # N6D6997

Lemans RS

Frame is a 67 cm and that is the main reason for buying. I finally have a bike that fits right!

Welcome to the Age of Enlightenment.

That was the scheme on the '87 Lemans RS. I've never seen an Ironman like that. Being surrounded by fit women in tight pants tends to blur the vision. I completely understand.

Here I go again..... I was there the day this bike was purchased, and all he's added since are the aerobars, and a cyclo that's missing....
He paid full retail, but also bought the Looks, so she gave him credit for the 600EX pedals that were on it (which are now worth a lot more than the Looks).

It was top of the line Ironman for 1987, the Master, and was $698. He rode it no more than 4-5 years, and it's been hanging ever since.
His wife told me to keep it, or sell it and split the money with her. I told him I'd give it a go-over for $50 and give it back, we can ride Ironmen in the next local duathlon.
He and I and another guy founded a duathlon 26 years ago, and we're all doing the 27th annual event on Ironman bikes.....

i saw one of those locked up outside a bar near my house recently-- did a double-take because i thought i was seeing things with the sloping toptube! as soon as i got home, my first thought was, 'man! i should have taken a pic of that weird centurion for the bikeforums thread!' ...:)

anybody ever own/ride one?

1998 Ironman Master

This is a 1998 built in late 87 (SN N7S5728). Love the purple haze paint job, especially the pearl white which glows purple due to the surrounding paint.

That is amazingly clean, brebla. Welcome to the cul...er, .....forum. First time I've ever seen the purple treatment on the saddle and bars. Looks great. If you're ever so inclined, once in a while on eBay, there are cages that match the color right on. Superbe 1988 Master, just superbe.

Thanks! I've seen the bottle cages, but I decided to leave that choice to the new owner. I'm selling it on ebay because I found an 86 red/white. I really like the fork crown on the 86. As far as being clean, I've learned a tremendous amount about restorations just surfing the forum. Thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge.

1986 Centurion Ironman

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/P1090424.jpg

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...s/P1090423.jpg

Shimano 600 "tricolor" 8-sp STI group, DA 7700/Mavic CXP30 wheelset.
Cinelli steering, SSM Ponza saddle, FUBAR wrap. Went with greys and a little R/W/B action.
Rides like an Ironman with modern components. Which it is. RD cable housing is too long. I'll handle it.

rccardr 11-26-12 12:20 PM

Nice. I've got to pull out that red/white one I bought a while ago and figure out how to set it up.
Done a lot of white saddle/white bar tape/white housing builds this year and want to do something a little different.

RobbieTunes 11-26-12 02:30 PM

I hear you. I kind of wanted to stay from the white, went with some gray, added the blue for a little steel red/white/blue.
To go with this:

Very nice! I especially like the red pedals.

They're similar as best. Centurion didn't chrome the chainstay or color match the the forks to the seat and head tube on the two tone Ironman models. Two tone paint schemes by tube were very common on the mid-1980s. If you want to see real Centurion clones, you should look at the Nikko brand.

Am unsure what to look for. Found M1F15732 on frame near pedals. Bought bike in 1986 I believe. Help in Identification?
