Finished today. b dub's wrecked Facet is reborn. Yes, I had the frame checked on a jig; it's OK. Wheels from IthaDan. 57x57cm, explains why I had to go with a 70mm stem. . Budget buiild, lotta Kalloy on this one.

Hello! I could use some real help identifying what could be an old centurion. Got it off craigslist 6 years ago and at the time I was told it was a centurion, but now that it is not matching some of the records in this thread I am second guessing my self. The serial is on the shaft not on the bottom of the bike, and it looks to read: IN00160.

Here are a bunch of pics of the bike, any help is much appreciated!

Yes, almost certianly is a Centurion, as it has some Centurion branded parts and that serial number format has popped up on 4 other Centurion. Unfortunately, the owners did not provide sufficent pictures and component data to allow decryption. The fact that yours has been fixied and is devoid of the head badge does not help. My best educated guess given the frame features and probable original components (crankset, stem, bars) is an entry level model, most likely one of the LeMans variants. Era appears to be very late 1970s. to very early 1980s. What is the seat post size? If you pull the stem there may be an open date code (i.e. 76.9 = 1976, September) just below the insertion mark. The crankset should also have a two character, alpha- numeric code (i.e. 1.C = 1981, March), though it may also have an triple or quadraple character numeric code based on the Imperial calendar (i.e. 51-2 = 1976, February). Please post what you find, as it may help us to decode the serial number format. TIA.

1986 Centurion Dave Scott Ironman

I believe it is mostly original with the exception of the saddle, bars, and tires.

Red and white, my personal favorite color scheme.

Yes it does indeed appear to be a 1986 model, with the stated mods. However, since this is the Centurion Serial Number Database thread, posting of serial numbers is appreciated.

Interesting, they started building the 1986 models 1/2 way though 1985. I wonder if they were just stocking up on the frames or if they introduced it early, as soon as the SIS version of New 600EX became available? Would you mind checking some component date codes? TIA.

Beautiful 1986, just grand. Outstanding condition, pretty fork. Nicest wheels on any of the Ironman models.
The bronzed 600EX touches make the bike look so elegant, with the same tone on the DC calipers and the chain rings.

That is really, really nice. I'm building one, and the color scheme just begs for exactly what you've done.
I hope you don't mind if I copy it.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll have a chance for more creativity on the next one, though. It is an 88 expert that has been spray-bombed orange. I'm thinking of having it powder coated in a polished aluminum finish. We'll see...

need help dating my centurion

I have a origional yellow centurion I need help dating.
s.n. is ....IN08856
The headbadge it metal rivited elongates cross type
The stickers on tube are black background with cursive "centurion".
The sticker on seattube is also black background with small "fabrication garantie" in middle of background.
There are remnants of a upside down triangle sticker on top of seat tube.
2 small "frabication garantie" stickers on each side of fork.
Sorry buy the bike only came with 2 components which made dating more confusing...a SR crank arm with date of 76....and a SR stem with date of 80.
Any help with date and type of Centurion would be appreciated.

Sounds like 70's, but not sure. The cursive font/logo tended to precede many of early 80's, models, which had sort of a Cooper Black font in thick block letters.

Definitely 1970s based on the headbadge. Lacking photos I'd have to guess at it being a LeMans, as that was the most popular model and therefore has the greatest chance of turning up. In addition to photos, knowing the required size of seat post wouild be an aid in identifying it.

Centurion LeMans 12, as found, cockpit and seat changed by original owner.

Without going back through the thread, I'm going to go out on a limb and make a WAG that its an '83, since it came with owners manual (no year specified there) and a 1983 catalog:

Edit: going back to post #62, I guess this was an '82 model sold in '83 probably.

Also have a Pro Tour 15 sold to me as an '84 and it conforms to the system as numbered N4D4052

I don't think it's a Lemans, but I don't have a clue back that far. I can't remember the Lemans having those lugs. T-Mar may have the info.
