Hi - Here's another for you -
Smoked purple-cream-smoked purple Centurion Lemans wearing all original Sport Lx components - 7 speed rear, biopace double up front. Tange 2 main tubes cro mo fork blades.
Serial number F9O33778 Looks like a 1989 to me. :thumb: \
I also have a Centurio Pro Tour 15 that I've upgraded. It wasn't original when I got it, so I didn't feel much shame about putting new stuff on it. I left the half-step gearing, put RSX 100 brifters on it, a mega-exo 7 speed rear on it, new handlebars, fenders, and saddle, and called it good. It is the medium sparkly blue with the darker head badge area and darker blue letters - all chrome under the paint -added bonus!!! All the braze-ons for touring - added water, front and rear racks and fender mounts too..I will dig it out of the shed and give the serial number as well. I love it - comfortable and easy riding.

I love Centurions! My first decent road bike was / is a 77 Super LeMans in firey orange. Recently I found a 76 Pro Tour with with full gen 1 cyclone gear, almost mint paint, sold it to a gentlemen who had the same bike same color brand new back in the 70s. He traded me for some cash and a 86 Dave Scot with full 600 grouping. I also just picked up a 70s Centurion frame that I'm restoring, not sure what this one is yet, weird serial number stamp on the seat tube. Anyways, here are some pics, cheers!

Hi, I've found this bike at a very cheap price, the only thing is I dont know if its fake (maybe repainted as a lemans rs) or just a bad restoration, can't seem to find anything like it (just one color, and those fat letters) Tomorrow I'll go see it so I can check the serial number. Help to Identify Centurion Bike
 

I bought a Centurion bike from a neighbor 10 - 15 years ago and at that time put on a new seat, tires, and had it adjusted at a local bike shop. The bike is a very tall frame as the previous owner was around 6'2" to 6'3". I only rode it a few times then and have tried riding it a few times lately but being 5'10.5" it is to tall for me and I have now purchased another bike (Giant Roam 1) which is working fine for my riding. Some of the info on the bike follows along with attached pictures.

Serial No. - N0N5730
Hubs (Front and Rear) - Maillard, France 82
Crank Arms - SR Japan, 80
Sun Tour Shifters and Derailers
Front Fork - CR-MO Tange Fork Blade (all chrome)
Tires - 27x1-3/8
Sticker on tube under seat - Champion No. 5, Chrome Molyboen Steel, Seamless PG Tubes, Tange Industries Ltd.

I would appreciate any information you can share on this bike. Also, I paid $50 for the bike and put in about $75 when I first got it. I will probably be putting it up for sale so if you have any estimates on a reasonable value to ask I would appreciate that information also.

I really enjoy looking at the older bikes on the forum and this seems like the right place to get some information on this bike.

Headbadge places it late 70's to early 80's
Lug lining means little, but Lemans models had that.
I'm guessing a Lemans 12 or Super 12, but I'm not sure.
Very similar bike to my '83 Lemans RS, but I'd put it earlier.

Serial No. - N0N5730
Hubs (Front and Rear) - Maillard, France 82 - likely not OEM.
Crank Arms - SR Japan, 80, In line with an earlier LeMans or Super 12...
Sun Tour Shifters and Derailers - Cyclone puts it 1979-80 from what I've seen on the Semi Pro's, etc.
Front Fork - CR-MO Tange Fork Blade (all chrome) - likely not OEM, but could be. I've never all chrome on a Centurion
Tires - 27x1-3/8 - 27's came as late as '83 or '84 on some models.

from the serial number the bicycle is a 1980 or 1981 model year.

The model is an Elite or a Super LeMans, both had Champion No5 PG tubes.

The model name was put on the chain stays at that time.

Thanks Hummer. In looking at a 1979 catalog the Elite seemed to be the closest fit based on the Sun Tour NSL and Cyclone components. The bike has no decals on it anywhere which seems strange compared to all of the other bikes I have seen in this thread. The paint appears to be the original Centurion blue and pinstripping.

I just wanted to post cause I think I have only found 1 other 84 Le Mans RS, and I also read that they only labeled the derailers, Le Preel (with 'L") for a very brief time. Seemed kinda unique. Let me know if anyone knows more about it. If it is indeed '84? Why did they label it Le Preel, instead of LePree, etc? Thanks guys!

That is a great bike, one of the smoothest I ever rode. Pedals should have been MKS Sylvan caged. I regret selling mine, but it was a 58cm.

I have had quite a few Centurions but this one is the nicest one yet. I bought this 1988 frameset a few years ago and built it up last year. Sante breaks,crankset, chain-rings and freewheel. Ultegra Tricolor derailleurs and wheel hubs. Cinelli bars and neck I have the matching Sante derailleurs but they are beat up. I was going to repaint the Sante crankset but it looks OK bright aluminum.:)

Here are some pics. The first is when i first had gotten it. Since then I have removed the shredded foam handlebar pads and re-taped them.

was the Pro Tour the only Centurion that had canti brakes? And did it have 27" wheels or 700c?

Centurions just give you so many reasons to ride them.
Sante is another good reason, I think.

Yep, that's the same as the one I had. It's best left unchanged, as far as drivetrain. It's smooth and it works well.

As far as I've seen, it was. I think it had 700c, but I'm not sure.
My Semi-Pro's both had 700c, and The frame was very similar, other than canti's.
Nothing would surprise me. That was a transition era, and touring has it's own rules, sort of.

Nice work! I have the same frame set and hope to build it up this summer. I really like your color choices, gives me something to think about for my own build. I agree that white Sante cranks would really be spectacular; but it's also hard to go wrong with classic shiny aluminum. Too bad the derailleurs are beat up, they'd be nice too. I have tri color lined out for my bike as well. The 6400 series was a great series. Though I do have some DA hubs that need a home.
