Here is my 1986 Accordo RS. SN N6B8864. It was originally equipped with Shimano Light Action Derailleurs & Shifters, Dia Compe 400 QR brakes, Dia Compe aero brake levers & Araya single wall rims with Suzue hubs.

Since my Semi Pro is going to the national Centurion preserve on the east coast soon, I found another to scratch my Centurion itch.

This bike is beyond nice, almost seemed like Centurion and Suntour wanted to showcase their new toys on a stunning platform. If so, they succeeded. The transmission is beyond nice, shifts like a dream.

Congrats on your find. I've been commuting to work on my Pro Tour 15 for the past year and find it perfect for the hills here in Central Pa. I agree with your impressions. This is one nice bike. I searched for a little over a year before finding mine on CL in Arizona.

I recently picked up this sweet Centurion Mixte for my wife. I gave it a pretty good cleaning and replaced the tires/tubes, otherwise it's all original, I think. Anyone know anything about this bike, like year/model? There is no model name or other identifying info on the frame. Just the Centurion logo on the downtube, which actually says "Centurion Custom." Serial number goes like this:

W77 3 40233

Other possible identifying info:

What a day, 2 ace Centurions! The ProTour is just Prestige silk, and I think P'mantis hit it on the head: showcasing top stuff in a great package.

I'm not familiar with that older Centurion mixte, but I'm jealous as all get out.
If I could pick a mixte, that'd be it.

While this is a new serial number format, it's tempting to say it's 1977/1978. The component mix is almost the identical to a Centurion Sport from the era, with the exceptions of the bars, which could be part of the mixte configuration, and the fenders, which could be aftermarket. Still, given the lack of real estate for traditional model name placement, it may in fact be a Custom. If this of Taiwanese manufacture? I assume it has the "north star/cross" headbadge? It would be appreciated if you could take the time to get some date codes off the components (refer to components page of the Vintage-Trek website) and post a photo of the downtube decal. TIA.

Yeah, I was pretty excited when I found this one. I had been searching for a townie bike for my wife for quite a long time. I was about ready to give up when I stumbled across a craigslist ad for this bike. I knew this was the one (especially because it was listed at a very reasonable price, which is kind of unheard of in my neck of the woods). I didn't even show the wife the pictures from the ad. I just brought her with me to meet the seller. She saw it for the first time in person, and instantly loved it.

Yeah, I was thinking the serial might be indicating it's a 1977 model, but was not sure. I think the fenders are original because they are painted/color-matched with the frame. They also have some pinstriping (stickers) which match same on the forks, which you can make out in the downtube pic below.

Hi

I'm interested in finding out what this bike is. I live in Australia and a friend was going to throw this bike out so I took it. It came from a neighbour of theirs who was also going to throw it out so I don't know the history. I found this thread and started becoming interested.

The label says Centurion Turbo.
Serial Number is:M3M01753 - The second number is not clear it could be 3,5,6 or 8
Suntour ARX derailers front and back
Suntour Systemtric shifter
Dia Compe 500 Brakes
27 inch Araya Rims
Tange No. 5 Tubes
Sugino Crank Set

It has a made in Japan Sticker near the bottom of the seat tube so I don't think it is made in Taiwan as some suggest the 'M' might mean.

Any clues on the date and your opinion on this bike would be appreciated.

Thxs for taking the time to do this. The round head badge came out in 1979, so this is probably 1977/1978. If the fenders are OEM, then I would think that Custom is proably the model name, as essentially it's a customized Sport.

This is definitely not the same Centurion Turbo as released in the USA, where it was the top model! Regardless, the 2nd digit is likely a 3, The metal headbadge was dropped 1985 (in the USA) and top mount shifters had also passed out of fashion by then. It's almost certainly a 1983 model but there's an outside possibility of it being a 1984. This appears to be the equivalent of the 1983 LeMans 12 that was offered in the USA, which was an upper entry level model. The LeMans 12 used Tange #5 for the main tubes and hi-tensile steel for the forks and stays. I can't quite make out your decal to determinne if it's a full #5 set or not.

This is what I was expecting. Let the buyer beware in the USA I guess. Where the paint is coming off the forks it appears to have a polished chrome underneath. I'll post the details for the frame when I get home.

That "Turbo" seems to share a lot of features with various years of the US Centurions.

The headbadge for '83 and '84 Turbos here was a decal, so it could be earlier or just Australia.
The braze-on cable guides were around earlier, but some '81 models here had clamp-on cable guides.
The fork is very similar to the '81 Semi Pro.
The group is very similar, especially with the piggy-back shifters, to the '83/'84 Lemans
The Tange Champion #5 would be on a par with the Infinity used on the '83 Lemans.

Nice bike, my size, and a shame someone had to throw it away.
It should clean up very well with some effort, but look pretty good.
The Japanese-made paint job is very durable. You've got a nice bike there.

And welcome to the forum. It's been a good couple of days with interesting Centurions.

Turbo....sheesh. The decals are '83-'84 Turbo from the US models, all the way.

OK, here's the third in today's series. Thanks to AZORCH, I'm now the proud owner of a beautiful Centurion Turbo to replace the one I foolishly sold a couple of years ago. No pics till I get her cleaned up a bit, but she's that sexy, Turbo red with gold head tube and her serial number is 4F 07420. She has what Elev12k would call 'honest patina' and spots of flaking/missing paint but she's still drop-dead gorgeous.

Hello,
I recently picked up a 1986 ironman and have been slowly upgrading it for eventual serious road use. The serial number is N5S6305. So far I have replaced the original 6 speed free wheel with a 7 speed 28T along with NOS shimano 600 7 speed shifters. New HG chain. I am interested in getting my hands on the original seatpost and saddle. Does anyone have any ideas? I think it was a black turbo?

Great bike! I actually picked up an identical one this past summer and have been loving the ride. Mine was spec'd original ("expert" 105), but I have changed out a number of the components and would be willing to pass them along at a very reasonable price:

Saddle: Vetta (brown suede cover, 'Turbo'-shape, made in italy)
Post: Sugino "SR-SC" (fluted with post height inch markings)
Levers: 105 (white hoods, SLR, BL-1051)

Here's my Ironman Expert, apparently an '87, serial number N7A6489:



I've replaced the original bars and tires. I'm unsure whether the seat is original. Other than that, as far as I know it's original.

It looks consistent with about '78 - '81. That's a great frame, but boy-howdy is it in rough shape!
