Here's another to add to the database;



A 1989 Dave Scott Master Ironman - originally white with grey marble fork/head tube and rear fork, here's how it looked when I got it;



It has been here on Vancouver Island since new and raced in many tri's by it's 2 former owners who updated it over the years...

Now all the un-needed braze ons have gone and it's almost completely stripped down awaiting a fresh clear powdercoat;

Thanks...;o) I just found it this week in a Thrift..The specs almost match the 84 brochure that Sheldon Brown scanned to his site...all original except the bars, grips and levers.

The color is sort of a metallic root beer...

The bike has a pretty color scheme with the brakes, hubs, rims and chainstay protecter colored kind of bronze...gold accents

That's a beautiful colour, I don't think I've seen anything like it before on Centurions. Is it as pristine as it appears?

Yes...it's a pretty color but I wonder if they have "faded" from black? In the catalogue for 1984 they are described as anodized black...well maybe there were several colors.

It really rides well...very fast and smooth.

It's unlikely, and bronze is a very common colour. I've got one bike with bronze rims. Could be that they were using up old stock, blah blah blah .

I'm very happy to have found it as I don't really have a "road bike" in my collection. I'm not too happy about the bars...I like them but not on this bike. I want to put on something more racer style.

Any suggestions welcome!

I don't have a good photo at the moment, but my contribution is a Diamondback Crestview tourer, SN 7445. The number is stamped longitudinally, along the circumference of the left side of the bottom bracket. I bought it as a bare frame (bare of much paint, even) so I have no idea what it's OEM components were, except it obviously had canti brakes. I've been assuming it's from the early 90's. The seat-tube sticker said "Tange Cr-Mo Main Tubes." Seatpost= 26.0mm

You can do it yourself, but the LBS can also do it for you. Or, if you're lucky, some nice member of C & V lives near to you down there in South El Monte, and will perhaps come and give you a hand in exchange for a beer or pizza.

He he...working on old bikes. Yes...since my "newest" bike is 10 years old I'm learning how...

I'm wondering in terms of style...should I look for something close to original or buy something new?...

It's easy enough to find drop handlebars in the appropriate style and vintage. More knowledgable people may come and say otherwise, but it seems as if a lot of the bikes had handlebars switched out at the LBS at the time of purchase. I've seen apparently identical mixtes with both drop handlebars and the type on your Centurion.

Yes...I have 1977 Motobecane Grand Touring mixte that has upright bars and I'm pretty sure they were swapped out at the time of purchase for the original drop bars...

In that case I like them...

New guy here. Thought I'd throw mine in. I can't find the serial number, if someone can't point out where it should be I'll add it.

'89 or '90 Sport DLX. I bought it new in the summer of '90 or '91 and I know it was the previous year's model at that time. I dunno, I guess it could be even older. Shimano Exage components. Tange Infinity CR-MO frame. Hi-Ten fork. Looks like it says ACS on the hubs.











Even though I was a very active cyclist when I bought this bike, I don't really know the terminology or what else I should mention. Would be glad to edit this post and add anything anyone wants to know.

I can't wait to get out and take it for a nice long ride again.

I found my serial number by turning the bike upside down and looking at the place between the pedals...;o))

Does your bike have a number stamped there?

Definitely older than 1990, as that is when the brand name changed to Diamondback. Offhand, I'd say very late 1980s.

I concur with the Lanky Lass. Bronze is a common anodized finish and typically does not fade under normal conditions. We used to submit our anodized finishes to all types of accelerated environmental testing. However, there is one way to tell for sure. Remove those pads. You can be guarranteed that the inside of the caliper ears, where the pads sit, have seen little if any daylight since they left the factory. What you expose will be the original finsh.

I hope that you are right about bronze being a common finish. I sure would like to find some brake levers in that color. ;o)
