Shimano drive train

:D Where does a 'Posititron' set fit in the Shimano line up? The cable shifters (stem mounted) and the attach points are different from the standard cable set ups. Any info will be helpful.

It is a "HI" level component that fits between the "S" and "T" ;) Seriously, they did not function well. IMO they came off the drawing board too soon. I've worked on a few over the years and have lots of available parts if you need some.

I just parted out a JC Penny (Huffy) bike, nothing special! I don't think it had been riden much. Weird rear hub, the left side has a big threaded portion with nothing on it. No idea what was for. Maybe to be used on a tandem?? I have no use for the shifters and derailleurs.

I have a mid 80's Schwinn World Tourist with positron and it works quite well. Shifting while not pedaling is weird to say the least. Mine,at least shifts very easily, but I wouldn't invest a lot to keep it alive.

 Maybe that hub can be used for a cassett, I'd better get it out of the dumpster!!!

:) Noah Scape! I may be asking you for parts help! Especially the rear derailleur shifter, with cable set up, mine is rusty and the cable kinked pretty bad. I'll keep in touch. I'm thinking of pulling the frame from the dumpster and making a "Beater" out of it, tho it weighs a ton. Thanks

I got it and I'll never use it... let me know and it is yours for the cost of shipping.

I have a couple of NOS Positron II derailleurs and a used stem shifter, and a front freewheel... all available for shipping cost. The front freewheel is used, but absolutely no rust I did throw out the wheels, and therefore no rear cluster to offer. I decided to make my Suburban a commuter with alloy rims and more traditional friction shifting....

Hrm... it might be fun to set up a fixed-gear bike with a Positron front-freewheel system. It would functionally be a singlespeed, but it might be fun to ride it around and watch the heads explode... :)

Little Darwin 02-08-06 09:23 PM

Someone had suggested that I switch the chainwheel to the non-freewheel type, leave the fixed cluster that came with the front freewheel...

In effect, it would become a 10 speed fixie.

Of course, in reality, the rear derailleur and chain would probably do some pretty strange things when yoy try to use reverse pressure to slow down...
