Mavic MA rims

Was wondering what the "MA" rim was in the Mavic hierarchy. I just picked up a couple of wheels with these rims with 7-speed 105 hubs (1055's I think). They look similar to the MA-2's I have. Are they a decent rim?

MA-2s are excellent rims, very much sought after.
I think they're the precursor to the Open Pro's

I just bought a wheelset with Mavic sealed bearing hubs and MA rims on eBay. There is no number, just MA on the label. I haven't seen them yet. It's been two weeks and I'm beginning to worry.

What's the difference between the "MA" and "G" series rims? Tubular VS Clincher?

I have a set of MA3 rims in the garage - still in the plastic.

I keep threatening to build them up and use them, but they are clinchers which I hardly ever ride, and they are heavyish.

Still and all - nice rims - so maybe I should build them after all.

I picked up a NOS pair of MA40's last year on E-Bay for about $50 shipped, currently running on my Bridgestone. They are a really nice rim with SS eyelets around the spoke holes and a dark grey (maybe ceramic) coating on the rim. Also have the Red Mavic lables. I'm not sure of the vintage though.

May very well be - I have a number of Mavic "G" rims in the garage and all are tubular.

Hope you get them soon!

I probably should have titled this thread a little differently since there are lots of name variants on the MA theme. The rims in question are just simply "MA".

They have no number on them. The sticker uses the same color scheme as the MA3 and MA2. It's difficult to find anything about these. I was wondering how long they were on the market, and if they may have been replaced for a reason to be concerned with.

Ok - then it's not. I have an '80s Basso with dark grey Mavic G 40s, both clinchers. Rims are laced to Campy low-flange hubs.

Me too.

The wheelset finally arrived yesterday. They are in beautiful shape, but I still was up late polishing them. My fingers are sore today. They Have Mavic hubs, wheelsmith spokes, Velox tape and a new pair of Continental 2000s.

The label on the rims is green and yellow and just says Mavic MA.
