Silca floor pump pressure guage off...

I just noticed that my Silca floor pump pressure guage is reading 25 lbs of pressure when the pump is at rest. It seems to read 120 lbs when the tires are pumped to where I remember 120 lbs feeling like. However, a friend of mine said he pumped his tires to 120 lbs, but when I read the pressure on my Silca, it registered 130 on my guage. Does this mean, I have a guage that needs to be replaced? I grease the leather with vaseline every 2 years or so. Is there some kind of maintanance I need to do other than changing rubbers and leathers and greasing? I seem to remember some kind of stuff having to do with ball check valve, but I have never probed in there.

not sure which model you have - the newer ones have a plastic gauge cover with a little square in the edge - a twist on a small screwdriver and the cover pops right off. Then you can set zero on zero by adjusting the pointer on the spindle. I think that most of these gauges are not breathtakingly accurate. 10% is probably pretty respectable, and if you run 120-130 you'll probably not notice the error.

You can get a decent size gauge from any industrial supply house. It's a standard 1/8" male pipe thread. That's the first thing I did when I got my pump because the original gauge was tiny and the psi scale was impossible to read from a standing position.

You fellows have me curious now...from what I can tell from the posts so far, don't rely too much on the gauge, eh?

Anyone have experience/comments on the Blackburn TP-5? That's what I use as my primary pump.

Take care,

-Kurt

My new Park PFP-2 pump started showing 50# for 0# when it was about 6 months old. I e-mailed them & they sent me a new gauge. Said there are some gears inside & sometimes they jump a tooth or 2. New one works great.

That is why Clement sold a pressure guage decades ago, that came with a special Campagnolo steel head, bid $157. on one last year, and lost.

I tried bending the u thingy inside the Silca pump gauge, but when I finally got it right on, it wouldn't fit inside the housing anymore. Then I tried bending it again until it just plain broke. Now I torn between getting another Silca gauge for about 12.95 plus shipping or getting one in an industrial supply house. I tried a search online for one that is maybe a bit better quality, and I saw prices like $100! Does anyone know where I could find a better guage at a reasonable price?

You'd be getting a really fancy liquid filled or gas-approved gauge for $100. Look here: https://www.wika.ws/commercial.php
