Lost Items
 

maybe it's a senior moment (year?) but I have a NOS campy steel
headset, loviningly packed in an amber medicine vial, stored away
for safe keeping. Unfortunately I've been trying to remember
exactly where that is for the past year :eek:
Last saw it just before we moved (about 4 years ago), I know it's in
the house somewhere but. . .

So, what treasures do you have that you can't lay hands on?

grrr! My wife drops an expensive diamond earring down the center console of her car where the brake handle comes through. I tried to find it with a flashlight. I tried to lift the console and look under it. I'm now sure it's resting quite comfortably in a place thats inaccessable without tearing the interior apart.

I have a perfect retro Bianchi somewhere. When I open my eyes in the morning I just can't find it.. irritating :)

What drives me nuts is the way I have all my bike parts "organized." It's a nightmare! I'm blessed with a nice, big basement area that's pretty much dedicated to bikes, parts, etc., but since I've had more than one biking "life" (old road bike, long run of mountain biking, now back to old road bike), the mix is a headache. If I need a simple cable ferrule end, I have to think first, "okay, are those in with my mtb cable stuff or is it in the old road cable stuff? And further, is it in with that big tangle of cables and supplies, or is it in with the brake supplies, or the derailleur supplies, or.......ahhhhh!" I've got most of the stuff, enough to build up who knows how many bikes, all apparently stacked neatly to the untrained eye, in mostly small Rubbermaid-type stacking boxes, and most of the boxes even have magic marker labeling on them. But your guess is as good as mine where you might find a ferrule end, even though there's probably a hundred of them in there somewhere!!!

Those tires I bought from you- the Vittoria Rubino Pros. I can't wrap my mind around where I could have possibly put that tire! I held on to them for a while before it was time to switch to new tires, and now, one of them is just gone, gone, gone. I finally broke down and went over to Performance and got the other tire there. :(

Its right next to the four-hole campy front derailleur that I'm not even sure that I ever had...I can see it - it is on a bike in my garage...but, no, not there; not in the drawer that holds the front derailleurs, not anywhere...must be with your headset.

The list is quite long.

One thing is assured though... if you can't find it, start looking for something else. You'll never find the new item you're searching for, but you will probably come across the orginal lost item.

The other side of this coin is cleaning up. You throw out that obsolete part that you've kept for 10-15 years and never needed.

Next week, you need it.

My dread is losing the SPECIAL TOOL. The spoke wrench or the tap for British crank arms.
Losing a part is bad, but you can justify buying another if the price isn't too dear. Buying a duplicate tool is on a whole different level. Extra parts are often sold or traded. Who wants to shell out for two or more of every tool?

One can never have enough tools.
I just bought three (3) 3.5mm allen wrenches for a pair
of delta brakes. I know at some point in time I'm gonna lose
one.

Somewhere, there is a box full of track parts (Campy cranks with superleggeri pedals still attached, bottom bracket, head set, and steel Cinelli pista bars and stem). I got a bad feeling its in the ex-wife's garage, or worse, the county landfill.
