help to identify a bike frame
1 Attachment(s)
Hi, I found a used bike for sale and would like to know the years of the frame but can't seem to find any info on it. It's a cannondale cad2 touring frame, Dark green, canti brake, shifter on the tube, it's writting Cannondale in big on the frame and cad2 here's a pic. Is there anyone that could help me? thanks

Strange.. it has cantilevers. It almost looks like its a cross bike but with slicks and setup for road racing. CAD2 ain't the model but the frame type. It has some more modern features like the way the seatpost is clamped but the fork and other parts seem older to me. I can't see clearly if it's an integrated headset (a-head) or just a converted 1" quill.
Interesting. Hope others know more than me :) http://fotos.marktplaats.nl/kopen/1/19/32272785.jpg This '00 Cannondale looks a little bit on it but has no cantilever brakes. It does have STI. The owners wants 750 euro and highest bid is 500 atm. I think the bike you want is older and definitely less worth (but no less fun!) |
The guy who want to sold it want 400 cannadian and he told me a lot of the parts on it are not the orriginal there're some new and old one but everything is in good shape. He also told me it was a touring bike there's front and rear eyelet for rack.

A k, tourer.. that makes sense.
I don't know what a canadian dollar does to the euro but without knowing more than this one photo (no specs) I would not (read: i personally, can't tell for others) pay more than 200-250 euro for it. But who am I ;) |
Cannondale touring bikes are very nice. Stiff as heck, especially if ridden unloaded, but a very nice touring rig indeed. I like the details such as the double eyelets on the rear dropout and the eyelets on the fork legs, in addition to the eyelets on the front dropouts. Nice bike! I don't know what year, but you might do some research and find out what years the CAAD2 aluminum was used, that would narrow it down some. :)

I don't know the specifics on your bike, but a used Cannondale touring bike I bought is supposed to be a 1989, and it is not set up for cantis.
So, I think it would be safe to say that this one is newer than 1989, but I don't know when they went to cantilever brakes.. |
Check the serial number. Cannondale serial #: Serial number code: first two digits are the size, next 6 are date of manufacture, remainder are unit number. For instance: SN#54021787121 indicates a 54 cm frame, built on February 17, 1987, #121.

its late '90's to 2000 or so.

I'd say it's about 1996/1997 or around there. My understanding is that all the touring models used the same frame and the only difference is the component package. Therefore, the model number is inconsequential, as the owner reported that many parts have been changed out. To figure out the value, you'd many to get specifics as to what components are on the bicycle and take into account the local market conditions. However, to give you a ballpark idea, the touring models of this period originally sold for about $1000-$2000 CDN.
