3 speed hub

I have a SA 3 speed hub with no oil port. How do I properly maintain it? Sorry if this really belongs in the mechanic forum.

IMO, oil thins the grease out, and you're better off without the oil port. If the hub needs maintenance / lubrication, you can disassemble and rebuild it, it's not that hard to do and there are SA rebuild instructions available on the web.

Here's one site:

I don't think that it would be a problem to unscrew the SA indicator spindle and squirt some oil in through the axle-as long as it is lightweight oil. If you do not have an oil port you need to put some light oil in every now and then for proper lubrication.

Search the forums for 3-speed hubs. You'll find several recent articles with info. The SA hub has a great reputation for durability and water resistance, plus parts are available.
