Has anyone heard of the Fuji Opus?
Hi everyone. I've been following the forums for awhile, but this is my first post. Down to business: I've been riding around on a Motobecane Mirage for about a year. I've recently decided to purchase a new old bike; I recently spotted a Fuji Opus IV (1992) that I'm interested in buying. However, I've never heard of the Opus nor have I been able to find anything about it here or via Google. Being as how it's the Opus IV, I figure someone here must have heard of it or at least one of its past iterations. Any info would be a great help. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure my brother had (may still have) a Fuji Opus which he used on a tour from Virginia to Alaska via the trans-canadian Hwy. This would have ben about 1981 or so. I'll shoot him an email and ask if that's the model he rode.

Hey bunabayashi, thanks; I'd really appreciate any info you could dig up. I neglected to mention that the Opus came stock with a nearly completely Shimano 600 groupo. So...I guess it's got to be a halfway decent bike.

Ok, just heard back from my bro, he's not sure it's an opus or not, it's in storage so he's going to check next time he's in Fairbanks. It was a halfway decent bike in its day, I recall that much, and any bike which makes it from Virginia to Alaska can't be total crap.

It turns out the old bike is a Fuji S12s, not the Opus. Sorry I couldn't help you out (but I now have a frame for a fixie!)

The Opus was Fuji's competition model on the early 1980s. Around 1983 (Opus III) had quad-butted. CrMo frames with SunTour Superbe derailleurs, Sugino Super Mighty Compe cranksets and a tubular wheelset. I'm not familiar with the Opus IV, but Shimano 600 would indicate it was downgraded to a mid-range model. Which 600 group is it? Arabesque, New 600EX (friction) or one of the indexed groups? If it's 1992, it should be 600 Ultegra, 8 speed and possibly with STI.
