Water Bottle Cage Bracket
Has anyone found an elegant way/device to mount water bottle cages on bikes that don't have brazed-on lugs?

You can always drill holes and use rivnuts. I prefer the stainless steel bands on vintage bikes. Minoura still makes them along with a few other types of mounting systems that will work well too.

Won't the stainless steel clamp on one's scratch the finish? |
I put a thin strip of old inner tube or line the band with electrial tape trimmed to not show. I recently bought a 30 year old bike and there was electrical tape under the cage and bands and although they had rusted it didn't get to the paint. I wish he had put tape under the top tube brake cable clips.
jwa, thanks for the lead on those Minoura extra cage bands. I've been looking for them for a long time. I have a set on a bike and they still look great after ten years. |

You're asking the wrong guy!:D I suppose you could tape the inside with cotton bar tape and trim it out with an exacto knife. |
Try the little rubber strips that come with cyclocomputers. They fit perfectly under those straps.
