I need recommendations…

on a new floor pump… I want one that is serviceable and will last a good long time. I only want advice from those who have had first hand experience with the pump they are recommending!

Price is not a factor.

I bought my Silca floor pump from Palo Alto Bicycles over 20 years ago, and it's never failed to serve me well. The body is made from steel. The brass chuck fits presta valves on one side and schrader on the other. I don't remember what I paid way back then, but I do remember it wasn't cheap.

I bought a basic $20 Nashbar floor pump 5 years ago, and it's still going strong. The dual-purpose Presta/Schrader head is occasionally temperamental, but that's my only complaint. I can easily pump tires to at least 120 PSI, which is more than I need.

I have a blackburn that I use regularly, and have for about five years. I have three silcas, and have never had a minute's trouble with any of 'em. I have replacement gaskets and plungers, but have yet to use any. The only problem with 'em is that they move a small amount of air, so MB tires are kind of problematic.

My Topeak Joe Blow Sport has performed flawlessly for the two years that I've had it. The dual head works well and releases quickly without much airloss. Could have a bit longer airhose, but for $20 I can't complain.

I have a basic Performance floor pump that I bought for about 15-20 bucks. If I could do it over, I'd go for something a little more sturdy. The gauge has gotten its screw messed up once, and I had to readjust the thing, and the pump only has one flat for a foot--two would be much better. For a floor pump, I've also been disappointed with its ease of use after using a friend's heavy-duty floor pump with two big foot platforms and a larger-diameter barrel. Since you say price is np, I'd recommend you get something a bit higher on the food chain.

Blackburn Team TP-5. Sturdy, dual headed, and a rediculously huge volume piston/air chamber.

I like my Topeak Joe Blow Pro, plus it has a fun name to say.

Another vote for the TP-5, although I believe I have a '05 model (all silver, looks a bit nicer then the '06).

It has been my main pump for about 3/4 of a year now, and is simply fantastic. Only complaint of mine is that the Presta side won't properly clamp to a Woods valve. Other then this, it's unquestionably the best pump I've ever used.

P.S.: It was given to me by a fellow cyclist who couldn't figure out how to work the Presta/Schrader dual-way valve. No way in hell would I spend $100 on a pump...

When my trusty old Joe Blow died after 4+ years of heavy use, I replaced it with a Park FP2, great pump

CCM Found it a few years ago and it works great. Ive pumped up my loaders tire with it to move it to dry spot to change it.

I bought my Silca about 25 years ago, too. The brass chuck on this one only fits presta and it has a pressure gauge built in. Granted, not cheap, but a high quality tool (Columbus tubing) that is fully servicable. Highly recommended.

For the kids' schrader-valve bikes, I went to "Wally-World" and bought a Bell floor pump. It works.

I bought my Medai Top Super in 1978. It still works as well as it did the day I bought it.

I have a Zefal hp Husky that has worked reasonably well for 15 years or so. I like the fact that the gauge is located at the base of the pump, near the floor. A gauge mounted further up the pump is more susceptible to damage if the pump falls over on a concrete garage floor.

(Funny thing, I posted here earlier, but don't see it. Must be the server and software upgrade.)

Anyway, I agree on the Silca floor pump. I eventually replaced the hose and head with a new dual one so it would work on the kids' bikes.

One problem I did have with the Silca, perhaps because of the Columbus tubing, is that the plastic rod bearing at the top stripped out. Maybe the threads weren't good enough in said tubing. I secured it in place with a tiny sheet metal screw on each side.

Thanks to all who lent me their wisdom and experience. I narrowed my choices to Silca (my intuitive choice) Medai and the Park PFP-2. Of the three I’ve owned a couple of Medai pumps. I really like the simple design, but I’ve had problems that were repairable but pesky. After much deliberation, I went with the Park. It is ugly… but so am I. I think it is going to work well, but only time will tell. Thanks again for all the suggestions!
