I tried the Trek link, couldn't find my bike!! I talked to a LBS who may have sold it, he said it was probably a '97. There are no visable dates on any of the components, but they all are Shimano 600. The hubs are sunsin gyro master, the cluster is suntour perfect. It has a 531 lugged frame built in England, seat and drop outs are cast with trek lettering. USA on seat tube, shadow style TREK on downtube and 600 series on cross tube.Paint is "sparkle" blue. 700 x 23 rims. Stronglight headset. Serial # 197336. The LBS said it is an upper end bike. HELP!!

Trek marked their 1985 models on the chainstay protector only, not the brightest idea
as it wore out.
The serial number is states it's 1985 model 600, 18 inch frame (that might not be right since
trek didn't specify an 18, might be 19 inch).
It was top of the line sport bike, Reynolds 531cs tubing. Stronglight headset, shimano 600 (catalogue
specifies N600) components, matrix rims on sansin hubs, sugino seatpost, selle san marco concor saddle,
Belleri handlebars and SR stem. Colour is race blue.
Look in the 1985 Trek sport catalogue on vintage trek (its PDF format only).

Very nice bike.

The Trek bikes from the '80's with the Reynolds 531 frames and Shimano 600 drivetrains were among the best production road bikes made in the USA. Today, Rivendell, and others, are building steel frame/steel fork road bikes of similar quality...but only for folks with LOTS of money.

If you can't let me know I can pull it off from the PDF (I did that with my 670's specs).

Thanks again lotek, I was able to download the pages I needed. Now matybe you can help me with getting a picture on the forum! I have the camera and a program for putting the pics in my computer, but how do I get the them to the forum?

Go advanced, manage attachments. The picture has to have a resolution that keeps the file size under 100k.

oglala_1927 04-10-06 07:39 AM

Tried to get pictures posted, no luck!!! They are still in my picture program. tried manage attachments, but no way to get to my pictures. Anaways, rode the bike yesterday, a great difference from the ones I'm used to!! Not solid feeling as my heavier bikes. The skinny tires with 100 lbs psi transmitted every imperfection in the street. How do you guys put up with it? I may have to sell this one!

Let about 10 psi out of the tires and try again. That - or ride on smoother streets. :D

Were you able to figure out what size frame it is?

oglala_1927 04-11-06 01:15 PM

I measured it as an 18" frame, center of head tube to center of seat tube is 19", stand over heighth is 28". I read somewhere that they also came with "flat bar" handlebars which mine is.

Does it look like this?

This is my '88 660. It's a 19in, according to vintage-trek.com. Sounds like the same measurements you have. It's a little small for me, which I've overcome with the 120mm stem and a fist-and-a-half of seat post, but it still is a very comfortable ride.

You can see that I've converted it to fixed gear but I might throw the derailleurs back on. And put some wider touring or cyclocross tires to be able to ride some packed gravel and dirt. These are really marvelous adaptable bikes.

oglala_1927 04-11-06 09:18 PM

:) go to Vintage Trek, then to brochures, then 83 or 85 and you'll find my 600 and all the spec's.:D
