If I had a lot of disposable income I might spend that much for the whole group on a frame... NOS... with local pickup or free delivery...

But then again, I may be low balling.

I am hanging on to my Superbe Pro stuff. I have a set that is almost in that good of condition. They are 32 spoke built on to open 4 cd rims. I am into the wheelset about $150. I am less one front skewer but plus one very nice mavic front hub in the deal. That front skewer has been elusive. I look at my price and think what a deal.

Wow, that is scary.
How will we poorer folk ever afford to replace worn out parts on our old vintage ride(s)?

Also, a question to which I've forgotten the answer (I am ashamed to admit...).
Why high flange for track and low for road hubs? I have old Campy Tippo high flange on my road bike. They have been great for many years and a number of wheel rebuilds, but I can't recall the theory behind high vs. low.

Thanks,
Drew

Back in the 70's we learned it that you needed the longer spokes (therefore low flanged hubs) for a more supple wheel, to take up all the little nasties that pass as pavement. Track riders were riding on perfect surfaces, so they could live with the stiffer wheel.

Always seemed to me to being making a great ado about very little.

Geez, I've got some Superbe Pro parts that are at least good condition if not very good. I'm pretty sure that I have some NOS cages for the pedals somewhere in my garage. Looks like I need to strike while the iron is hot and take some photos and put them up on ebay.

wow, about a year ago I bought a mystery raleigh frame with a set of suntour wheels.... the frame had been repainted pink... I think this kept people away from the auction. It ended for under $80US... I had deduced that being a raleigh with campagnolo drop-outs it must be a 531 frame... well I recieved it and the wheels were superbe pro laced to araya aero4 tubulars with the tires still holding air and I road them as is, nice wheels... The wheels turned out to be the added bonus since the frame turned out to be an '85 team pro crafted in the UK workshop likely from 531c.

I thought that price was really high until I read that he would throw in a set of clips and straps.

If you go back and look at the two auctions on the hubs and the pedals, you will see there were two common bidders that seemed to be engaged in a personal bidding war. I'm a Suntour junkie, and I can tell you that those two auctions were an anomaly. Nevertheless, when one is building up a "keeper" and you have been looking long and hard for that certain part, sometimes you just have to strike while the iron is hot. 36-hole Superbe Pros are very rare in my experience.
