Shimano Lightaction vs. Suntour Blaze

Considering putting an indexed Suntour Blaze derailleur on my bike instead of the non-indexed Shimano Lightaction it came with.

I know these are pretty cheap components, but the Suntour stuff was given to me.

Good or bad idea?

if your current drive train is non index, before you install any thing make sure your current freewheel/chain can be use for index shifting.
the shimano lightaction should work for index shifting also.

shifter derrailleur and freewheel should all be all suntour to index properly. you might be able to get away with a non suntour derrailleur.

SSRI,

Absolutely. That lightaction should index. My wife's Traveler has the Shimano Lightaction and it indexes remarkably well.

Both of the SLA set-ups I've had were indexed 6-speeds thst worked very well. In fact, the RD and shifter on my Miyata Triplecross build are SLA and they index a 7-speed set-up MOST of the time perfectly.
Sure you have the little dial set to 'index' rather than 'friction'?

Yep, I can either index it or not with the suntour shifters. My friend who had that setup said he even liked it better than his MTBs Deore XT setup!
