Is this a Cinelli Seat lug?

The symbol doesn't look quiet right... educate me.

LWaB 06-02-06 05:32 PM

That doesn't look like a Cinelli lug to me (but I've been wrong before) and that isn't a Cinelli logo I've ever seen. Looks a lot like the Long Shen seat lug on my S&S coupled Frezoni custom but my lug doesn't have the logo.

cyclotoine 06-02-06 05:35 PM

Yeah it isn't cinelli but that is the closest thing. any idea what it is? anyone?

spider-man 06-02-06 06:18 PM

Looks almost like a sideways Campy logo without the shield.

cyclotoine 06-04-06 04:15 PM

I suppose it could be Gipiemme or a Faggin symbol, if you want to check out the bike. here it is: ebay item # 7245244719. I am the buyer. I know nothing about the brand, I really like the looks of the seat lug and the nice pantographing, It's SPX too so really I have it all. A 531, an SPX and an SP this frame should be very stiff... will be intresting to see if I can ever really discern a difference. I'm hoping that bit of rust on the chrome will polish out.

I betcha can. SPX is about as stiff as they come. Very nice bike, let us know when you get it all together.

Powell Peralta came out with a road bike in 1984. They modified their logo a bit for the "cycling division". anyway, their team consisted of ex-skaters who kept trying to do tricks rather than ride fast. They didn't win any competitions, but tacoed a lot of campy wheelsets. Not to mention the huge beer expense account and the money lost on a failed "plywood pedals designed to look like tiny skateboards" project. a full year of one mistake after another and the whole idea wad deemed to be "stupid"
the bikes are very well made, it's a Colnago frameset... extremly rare, I think there were only three sizes made or something. The skate shop I used to go to had one in the window, I think the owner gave it to his nephew or something...

cyclotoine 06-04-06 11:42 PM

hahaha okay that is a joke right?... I am somewhat of a old school skateboarding enthusiast but more interested in the very early stuff that translates more into modern longboarding.....

Nope it ain't powell peralta anything...that's a Faggin and it's a very nice Italian make, you should be plenty happy with it. I have never seen one with that particular "winged wheel" engraving on the seatlug, but it's not either a "winged C" Cinelli mark nor a Campag winged wheel with QR...looks unique. Though there were hundreds of companies from the '20s onward who used a variation of the wheel-with-wing(s) including the League of American Wheelmen, it's an homage to a classic theme, and the bike should be a classic Italian ride, enjoy it.

Thanks Unworthy1, I'm stoked to get this bike. I already know I am going to hang some nouvo record suff on it, I still have to get the record hubs laced up to some open pros. There is only one problem... 28 hole open pros only come in black. The front hub is a 28 while the rear is a 32, I am thinking of just going with black anyway with black spokes, I think black wheels look good. I still don't have brakes but my black modolo speedies will go nice, but I might have to use campy C-record levers, bars and stem have yet to be aquired same goes for crank set. I am debating on modern bars or 42cm cinelli.... dunno yet...I have red tires all ready to go on... for crank set.. well there is a pair of NOS 180mm nouvo record (record strada) on ebay right now but they have a starting bid of 200 dollars and I just can't justify that...

Any additional information or sources of it would be appreciated. I would like to post on CR but I think this bike is post '84 and I don't know anything about Faggin or how far back they go so I don't know if it is on topic. In addition, I don't know how to post to the list!

A friend of mine had a Faggin. I guess it's pronounced fa-zheen, http://www.faggin.de
I thought I read somewhere that it was started by a champion racer sorta like Mercx, but I can't find any informatoin to support this. I was really pissed at my friend when he took the decals off that said Faggin, I told him that he just lowered the value of a bike he was probably going to end up selling anyway (he did) I told him if anything he should have made a couple extra decals that said "just" and "around"

Hi, thanks for the info... what is confusing is that this sight is German while the bikes are made in Italy. I did get one reply from CR which stated the following and I have seen this info before:

FAGGIN: Padova, Italy. 011-39-49-776246. Founded by Marcello and Leandro
Faggin in 1945. Excel Sports, 3275 Prairie Avenue, Boulder CO 80301.
303-444-6737. Torelli Imports, 403 Calle San Pablo No 109, Camarillo CA
93012. 805-484-8705. Classic Italian road geometry. Italian threading.
Investment cast lugs. Campy dropouts. Chromed fork and rear triangle.
Sloping fork crown. Engraved crown in seat lug. Seat binder bolt through
lug.
Models:
Tre Venti 86 SL
Tretubi 90
King 90-91 SLX
SL Racing 91 SL

information from the used buyers guide. Mine could be any of these models assuming they used SPX for the larger frames which is logical.

You can get a bit more info if you search the CR archives, you can find a tiny click-thru link on the CR main page to take you to the email page and there's another link to the archive form. Fah-JEEN is pretty much correct, and Mr Maasland states that the Italian names ending in "in" (such as Scapin, for one) are all from a small region around Veneto...Marcello was a pro racer in the '20s and (maybe) his son continued the family tradition in the '50s. Seems likely yours might be a large size "King" if it's from '90-'91, and if so then it's definitely Off-Topic (too new) for the CR list...they'll either flame you or ignore you. Somebody on that list (Robbie in Lakewood CA?) has a Faggin frame/fork for sale right now for only $100, it's a 52-52, I think...check the archives if you want it.

cyclotoine 06-09-06 11:35 AM

Thanks, I searched the CR archives and found a bit of info... thanks.... Seems like 100 bucks for one is a deal. I picked mine up today and the paint is a little thin but it's not too bad. The rust on the forks is the worst part and I fear they won't come up spotless but I will try to polish them as best I can. I don't think mine is the king model as the spacing is 126mm in the back so it has to be pre the switch over. which means mid maybe late 80's, lots of pantographs though and three slanted slots (vent) in the BB. Even the brake bridge is pantographed. The good news is my english nouvo record headset threads on smoothly. I do have one question... do italian BB threads go in the same direction as english? As in right to loosen on the drive side? Just would like to know before I go wrenching, I want to check for the ridges in the downtube to see if it really is SPX. Cheers, and thanks for all your help unworthy1.

Anthony

Oh I will post pics in a new thread when she is complete but they may not be for a couple months... I have my eye on some 180mm strada as well as C-record cranks on ebay... we'll see how they goes.
