1987 Bianchi
Hi,
I have a chance to pick up an 1987 Bianchi,58cm, Celeste Green Columbus tubing lugged construction, Shimano 600 components. The bike from a pic I was sent looks to be in very good shape. Seller is asking $350 but did not give model. Is it worth investigating? |
That seems to be a little higher than the going price for name brand bikes from that era with full 600 componentry. I think I saw an Italian framed 600 equipped bike go on ebay recently for $300... Of course some of that depends on your location as well... and the specific model. With Columbus tubing, you are probably getting a nice frame.
My 1988 Centurion with full 600 and Tange tubes cost $115 a couple of months ago on eBay (I was expecting it to go for a little higher). I think you would be happy with the Bianchi, if it is in good shape and is your size. Also if it is in good shape, it is obviously better than any new bike you can buy for $350... :D |
I concur with dgregory57. If it is an Italian-built frame and in excellent condition, the price is not bad. Japanese Bianchis, though very good, tend to command significantly lower prices than their Italian brethren.

At that price in this city, it would be gone from CL within an hour of being posted and I am not kidding.

If it's in good condition and fits you, that would be a nice find around here. I paid $275 for my Japanese Bianchi and it's the only used road bike I've seen around here that wasn't either 48cm or 63cm. :D If I hadn't been so shocked to find a decent bike in my size, I would never have paid so much for it. :o
