Specialized road bikes?
Anybody know anything about them?

Seems a bit pricey to me, but I realize the components could be worth something.
He sent me a pic, too, but I can't figure out how to compress it more. It looks to be in good shape, he's the original owner. Says it's probably an 85 or 86.

What? Specialized? Never heard of them.. 
No seriously. Specialized is one of the biggest names in road bikes - hopefully you knew that, looks like you've been here for a while. Just making sure.
However, $300 might be a bit much for a bike like that, you can get used modern bikes for around that price. He says it's dusty and dirty an in need of a tune up - I'd offer him probably $150 at the most.
Keep browsing Craigslist, there's a lot of good used bikes out there for less.
