Raleigh 3 speed from Styuyvecent bikes, NYC

Hi guys,
I'm trying to remember this bike. I've always wanted it. These were 3 speed bikes from Stuyvescent bikes when they were on 14th street, NYC.

It didn't have cables for brakes but it had a rod, a metal rod. It was very clever. And I think it had 28" tires. It was very cool.

Anyway seen these or have a picture of them?

Yeah..I think that was it!
Can't believe I saw them being sold new in the 80's. I must be getting old.

80's was right at the tail end of sales here in the US. IF you want a new one from India (not Raliegh but similar) go to the Yellow Jersey website (Madison Wi).

I believe these bikes are still being made all over the world, China, etc.

Avoid those Eastmans at all costs. They are built terribly and are not even worth $50.

Try to hunt around for a Chinese Forever or Flying Pigeon - these are marginally better then the Eastmans.

Alternately, you can probably get a very nice, used, Raleigh DL-1 (the real McCoy) for $100-$300, depends on the area and the seller.

Wow, that does look cool. Unfortunately, I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow. I would imagine it to be hard to find those rods and brakes for them.

My friend from India said if he goes to a small village in India, he can find English bikes that people have been riding for 30-40 years!
