Peugeot ph8 marked on it ?did thay do that?

I just got this peugeot and on a small white sticker by the crank it says ph8 and under that it says uabo 57x . Did these bikes come with ID on them? I've seen so many requests for help I figured thay didnt. It has sachs derailers front and back and levers on the handle bar stem, a cromed front fork, weinman center pull brakes, maillard hubs lased to 27 X 1 1/4 rigade super chromed rims, fenders front and back, the back fender has a built in light and there is a brazon for the generator as well as an intergrated rack with bungy cord hold down. carbolite frame. It rides nice and barely a scratch on it. Can any body figure what year and was 23$ a good price?

Some circa 1980 Peugeots had similar white stickers, generally with the model number and frame size.

The PH8 was an entry level model in the early 1980s. The Carbolite frame, steel rims and stem mounted shifters corroborate this. I haven't seen them equipped as you described, with fenders, lights and a generator, but there was a PH18 equipped as you describe. The first number in the serial number will indicate the year of manufacture, though the model year could be a year later.

If you like the way Peugeots ride and are on a budget, keep a sharp lookout for a PR-10 / PKN-10, which will give you something very close to the performance and feel of a PX-10, at less than half the price.
