out-of-control fleet
1 Attachment(s)
Thought I'd put everything together and snap a photo, I count ten rides total, yeah too many bicycles. I at least parted out 4 cheap bicycles I merely bought/obtained from trash for parts before I snapped that photo. Theres still another 20" banana seat bicycle in the yard somewhere (that dont really count since I dont ride it, too small, but not trash worthy!), and 2 frames in the house too good to throw away, even if I never wind up using em.
Don't know why I'm posting this, hope there are others with this many bicycles so I dont feel as crazy sometimes! |
Not one set of drop bars! ;)

You think you have too much?
(Excuse the little Lowrider Company machine in the shed pic. Haven't found any other place to put it.) This does not include the "Junk" stored out under a tarp outside, or the two indoor bikes... -Kurt |
Ahha..! Now I dont feel so 'bad', thanks!

Hell, you guys make me feel downright deprived having only three road bikes hanging on the garage wall, and one mountain bike (about to hit Craigslist before the night is over) in the corner. And the wife's probably buying me a restorable Gitane Tour de France for my birthday.

You can see my fleet here: http://tinyurl.com/rokjv. Of course, that doesn't include the four or five bikes to fix up and sell (mostly purchased for that reason), the '53 Raleigh Sports frameset to turn into something interesting, and several of my wife's bikes. Yup, it's out of control.

I have over 20 complete, and a few frames at present. The garage is full, there are 5 or so on the patio, there's a track bike in the lounge being packed, three bikes in the conservatory/dining room being stripped. It's outta hand, but in a good way. On the other hand the combined capital in them is very low, barring the ones I'm dismantling/shipping.....
|
Oh, and I have to pick up an Elswick Hopper frame tomorrow. Look for that to appear on Catch of the Day......
|
I feel better now...
On the positive side I only have 6 bikes. 1973/74 Sears 10 speed (received rom a friend, the original owner) 1989 Cannondale Tourer (tweaked rear triangle) Raleigh MT-500 (being rebuilt as a comfort bike) 1988 Centurion Iran Man Master Motobecane mixte franken-bike 2003 Giant Sedona DX I hope to add a Schwinn Le Tour IV, and at that time probably eliminate the Cannondale from the fleet I do find myself scanning garage sales, and thrft stores, but nothing has shown up worth my time. On yesterdays ride I did see an old Ross mtb at a garage sale, and of course had to stop and look... after all I saw bike wheels. :D I also passed several piles of stuff along the cub in one community (must be an upcoming neighborhood trash pickup), but didn't see anything but a couple of beat up 20" wheels. Earlier in the ride, I also saw an old bike in the ditch that looks partially stripped and abandoned, but passed it up... It is a pink woman's frame and has drop bars and an ashtabula crank. I looked no further... But, I have been tempted to go pick it up a few times since then, just in case... I suspet I'll drive by at some point, but I hope by then that someone else haspicked it up... I don't have the room. ;) |
I know only one other chap with two Capos. :)
|
You can never be too skinny, too rich, have too small a cell phone or too many bikes.
|
At least in pictures, Kurt takes the prize. He could become the "Bicycle" section on overstocked.com!
|
You guys are posting pictures of my wife's fears :)
|
OK, I think a few of you may be kind of like those people who horde stray animals. :D Of course, if I had the room I'd join you... ;):o

Boy, those photos make me feel better about my garage. Cars won't fit in there anymore because of bikes.
|
Wow new_dharma.. and you have what I actually call Likeable bicycles!

Here's mine: 10 hanging in the garage plus the 4 "good ones" in the boiler room. Not out of control yet as I still have plenty of room for the cars and stationary power tools. Don

OK, so do I show my wife this thread or not?
Not counting the 3 kids' bikes, I have only 4 right now: 1976 Austro Daimler Ultima 1974 Schwinn Suburban 1977(?) Raleigh Grand Prix 1977(?) Raleigh Grand Prix (parts bike or future project) {I'm looking for a front q-r axle for the Raleigh GP. It is slightly bent.} And I find myself looking for more... |
Well, I don't feel so bad after see some pics. Any complaints I get about the number of bikes I have I will be directing to this thread. I have two usually in the garage (MTBs) and the rest of my personal rides in the basement (4 bikes). My bike work shop is set up in the basement, but I need to clean the basement so I can get some more room. I bump into bikes when working on one in the stand. I have the remnants of about 15 bikes in the basement. I have fixed up and sold 4 bikes in the last month. I have one more for sale now. But, I am going to look at two bikes (my size!!!) and some parts on Monday that I hopefully buy at a decent price. If it happens details will be posted to the Catch of the Day thread.
|
I sold 2 this week and have one left to build but it is a mess. I also probably have the parts to put together two more sellers on top of that. 6 personal, 2 in pieces and the girlfriend has 3 plus a frame. My girlfriend and I live in a very small 2 bdrm. apt. but it is in a house and I have appropriated the shed:D .
