Raleigh Question

I have the opportunity to buy a late 70s/early 80s Raleigh for $200. Is it worth it?

"Raleigh road bike. Vintage Euro "Flyer" model. 18-23 steel tubing, fully lugged frame. 120mm rear axle width. Steel, 700c rims, bolt on axles, with 3 cross spokes, Huret Sachs gears with down tube shifters."

Cheapo, low-end clone of the Raleigh UK Team Pros used in the '80s.

Worth $25-50.

Being NYC, the market for this would likely be a little higher than what cudak888 is quoting, but I'd pass on it for $200.00. It does look to be in excellent condition though. Can you try offering $50 and see what the response is?

$200?
Ouch! Way too much for that bike. The $50 suggestion is more in line if it is in really nice shape with good tires. (Granted, I'm not familiar with New York pricing, though.)

$50 bucks tops.

Did you take a good look at the componentry, John? I've seen some Murrays sporting that particular dispicable half-stamped crankset, and the Sachs-Huret drive is similar to what the el-muy-cheapo Huffy 512s used.

The frameset is nice if you want to "look" like you're riding a true Team bike (build it up with half-decent Suntour components), but that frame is essentially no better then a '70s Grand Prix/Record.

Me? I'll save my $200 for the real deal.

In the UK, I'd be looking to pay about £20 for that bike.

Agreed, but in NYC, you'd likely have to pay $50.00 for that Murray... and actually, I'd prefer the Grand Prix frameset. ;)

I'd say the record frame is better than that bike's one. Ive never heard of 18-23 steel, but the record is 20-30, which is very durable.

that bike for 200$, I wouldnt do it. My record had componets like that, even came with a shimano 600 front deurrailer. It was 15$.

I bought that exact bike at a garage sale for $25.
I thought it was a bit much but the frame was my size.
