what would you do?

I found this old ross eurotour 5 speed on the curb the other day, waiting to get dumped, i really like this ride, i think it would be great for taking up to college as a beater bike, unfortunately the rims look like they got bent and someone went at em with a hammer trying to fix them, they still spin but tap the brake pads a bit, what would you do? dump the bike, or get new rims...and if it is the latter how should i go about this, i have never really restored a bike before.

Probably your best bet is to keep an eye on garage sales for a bike with the same size rims to swap. It could get expensive to buy new rims, spokes, labor, or to buy new wheels.

Try your local Goodwill or other thrift store for any old 10 speed that has alloy rim wheels on it, even the most basic bike boom types usually had Araya or Ukai wheelsets that were heavy, but of fair quality. Usually priced around $10-$15.

With a Shimano hyperglide freewheel these old single-walled rims are often lighter than modern aero wheelsets.
