Finally looked at the back of my old scratched C-Record cranks, 4 in a circle. 1984 when they were made, they came on a bike with a real kluge of parts The cranks can be returned to a pleasing condition, just lots of work ahead.

Kurt - I searched all over for these things - where do you find them?

FWIW - I chose to go with the friction setup and I LOVE it but I did acquire a set of Sychro 2 shifters with a 6 speed insert. At some point, I might want to try a 7. Thanks.

Rad, I know I'm going to hate the friction... I have a 1978 Norco Magnum SE with Shimano 600 friction, I disliked the non discript feel of the non detented lever, I stopped riding the bike and gave it to my brother inlaw

For the classic, I though OK, I'll give it an honest shot with a renewed attitude from your persepctive ;)

I picked up a pair of NOS Syncros 2 levers. They have 6 speed inserts as well, so Kurt, I need you to hook me up with the 7 speeds please :D

I'm on holidays perusing the Bike Shops in Calgary, but not seeing a lot of things I want. I did find a sort of Vintage looking Bottle holder :)

I found them at a high-end, owner-operated (one man show), roadbike-only shop in town. Not much left of vintage Campy at his shop, but he does have these inserts. I'd need to know what color (different clickstops, different freewheels) insert you need.

Hope he has the 7s...which color insert do you need?

What are my choices?

Check out this ebay auction for a pantographed Binachi rear C-record Mech. 200007943984

I have that same mech on a bike that was custom in 1985.

Is that the way they're supposed to be?!?! I put my 600-Ultegra der. and shifters back on after trying the DA 8 spd. I'd swear I can feel the down tube flex when I shift and it can't be a bad set of shifters 'cause I bought 2 sets and both are a chore to shift. They work fine in friction mode though.

No, they should move easily throught the entire range. I built a bike with 600 DT before and they feel almost as good as the Dura Ace of the time, not quite as postive, but still easy to shift.

Kurt, after a bit of research it loks like I may need a Blue Syncros insert. Can you get those?

MalcolmsFrejus 08-01-06 12:40 PM

Is there a way to make them smoother? lighter? easier?
I don't know how to describe the action but I'm staying with the 600 unless I can get the DA to shift with less force.
