What kind of bike is this?

I have seen these bicycles quite a bit, apart from knowing that its a Schwinn I don't know anything about them but I am interested in getting parts and building one.

If there are places where I can get parts (mainly a frame) to put together a bike like this then please post a link!

Thanks ahead of time.

That, my friend, is a Black Phantom. When I was thirteen years old in 1955, it was the bike every kid I knew dreamed about.

Schwinn cantilever frames were made by the millions, but it was the springer fork, chain guard, chrome fenders, luggage rack and paint scheme that made it a Phantom.

In 1995, Schwinn built a limited edition replica of the Black Phantom and immediately sold them all for $2500 a pop.

As recently as 2000, the Schwinn catalog featured a page of "cruiser accessories" from which you could build a Phantom look-alike.

EDIT Looking closely at the photo, the chainguard, lack of headlight on the front fender, and Schwinn font on the tank would indicate it's probably a late nineties "Cruiser Deluxe", not a Black Phantom.

Try Ebay/ collectibles/ bicycles.

To me the schwinn phantoms are ugly. Especially the cheaper retro ones like the one in the pic. Too much chrome. The B-6 is basically the same bike but painted and looks much better. Take a look at "nostalgic net" to see other models.

If you are determined to build a schwinn "memory lane" has a lot of the repo parts. Also Roadmaster, Columbia, and True Value have made fully dressed retro cruisers. The parts however end up going for the same cash as the vintage ones.

My expeience it is better to start with a bike with all the bits than to peice one together.
