Leather Fuji Saddle
a friend recently gave me a saddle, that looks exactly like a brooks b-17, except it has Fuji stamped on the side, and the numbers 7378 stamped on the back. can anyone help me out and tell me how old it is, or what the deal is with it? it's in great shape (broken in nicely), and i'm wondering what's up with this saddle.

Not a clue, but if you end up not liking it, I have a Fuji that could give it a good home

It's a Royale converted to fixed.
I have brand new brooks honey tape and professional saddle on it...
Just hoping to avoid the break in period...

Out of curiosity -- does the saddle say "Fuji" or "Fujita"? Sounds like a rare find. Congrats.

says Fuji on the side, however there is a sticker on the bottom that says fujita. i went for a 50 mile ride the other day on it...it's a dream. we stopped at a cool euro style bike friendly cafe/coffeehouse called tavola (the owners have custom pegorettis), where the old cycle guys thought the saddle was fantastic.....if anyone else knows whats up with this saddle, i'm all ears.

I remember seeing them in the mid to later 70s on some of the higher linr Fujis of the time but can't tell you anything else.

T-Mar could give you the low-down. Fuji/Fujita did make leather saddles. Not sure for how long, but I do know they had at least a couple models. The Fujita pro, was roughly the equivalent of the Brooks Professional. The other one I've seen (and have - thanks Poguemahone) is more like a B-17 - though it isn't exactly the same. Some Fuji's came with these, though I don't know which. There was also a brand of saddle called "Belt", which I think is related, but I'm not sure. I think that some S-10-S's came with Belt saddles.

I have a couple "FUJITA Leather Works" "Belt" leather saddle. It is basically a copy of a Brooks B-17 with small steel rivets and slightly heavier leather. One is like new and a real nice brown leather. The other was pretty beat so I cut it down (like a swallow), sanded it smooth and stained it black.
