Reynolds 501?

Any info on Reynolds 501 tubing? I've never heard of it but I came across a Raleigh track bike with this tubing and wondered where it falls on the scale of awesomeness/crapiness. Thanks.

It's all here

[edit] looks like 501 isn't there because it's now obsolete. Anyway, Reynolds 501 was a seamed, butted chrome molybdenum tubeset intended for mid-range, sports bicycles. It was about 0.5 lbs (225 g) heavier than a Reynolds 531 tubeset. Reynolds tubing now is all either for high end lugged frames or mass production TIG welding.

Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, you mention that Reynolds is for higher end bicycles; how does Columbus compare to Reynolds? Or is it like comparing apples to oranges?

No, apples to apples. Not necessarily the exact same alloys, but the two brands have always been of equal strength and quality.

I remember seeing a chart that indicated that I'm too heavy for my 531 bikes and should be riding a 501 frame.
