I bought it from a neighbor for $25. I thought my sister would use it since its WAY to big for me. Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

Heres another picture.

a cool bike :)

That seat looks like a Schwinn, but I am new at this ID stuff. Is it a singlespeed? Kickback hub? Red/Yellow stripe on hub? Cant tell...

Looks like an early 60's Schwinn Cruiser...maybe a Spitfire or similar model with custom apehanger handlebars and bling wheels. It's worth about $75-$150 so you got a modest deal.

you guys are awesome! ive been trying get info elsewhere for 3 days now with no response...
the only answer i know to your questions is its single speed.

ebizarosa 08-14-06 06:32 PM

i had it up on craigslist as a schwinn..but some one emailed me saying it wasnt. so, i took it down quick. i did try to ask him what he thought it was .. but i didnt get a reponse. it has been repainted and has a little rust ( portand rain) but if you think i could get even $75...

It could be a huffy, roadmaster, etc. It could be anything, and the paint looks rattlecan'ed so you cant tell by that.

Probaby NOT a Schwinn.

Schwinn seats are bicolored, but different, and the frames I have seen are single tube on top and double tubes underneath.

It would be worth the earlier quote if it were in really great condition... or there is a strong demand for bikes from what ever manufacturer made it. Barring that, as it sits, it is probably worth what you paid...

But, it would probably be fun to ride, and that is what counts.

Not a Schwinn, not a Murray, not a Huffy.

I've never seen a Columbia/Westfield that looks anything like this, but the front fork certainly does have a Westfield look to it. Chainring doesn't look Westfield though.

Might be best to ask on the Schwinnbike.com forums. Lots of balloon and middleweight fans there.

I'd guess JC Higgins/western flyer or some sears sold brand by the sprocket. Going by the chainguard style/shape, probably from around 1967. Wouldnt say its worth much though, its missing parts, and its been painted.

I guess I'll take a wild stab here. I used to have an old cruiser that was similar, badged by Sears. Austro Damlier ( not sure if that is spelled right ) manufactured them during the late 40's to early 50's for Sears. Or at least that was what I was told.

I had a Ward's Hawthorne with the same sprocket as a kid in the sixties. It is definitely not a Schwinn.

Looking colsely at it, I'd say it's a Derby. The only diference seems to be the chainguard.

sykerocker 08-15-06 05:49 PM

Nope, not a Columbia. Can't say exactly why, but the fork is wrong - and I'm just going off of 35 year old memories.

Not a Western Flier. I had one of them, and the frame was different, single top tube with two under it, like a Schwinn.
