Yep. Alloy wheels and handlebar and it will practically be a lightweight. Under 25 pounds anyway.

Found this at a fleamarket today for 20$. Not very many miles ridden, so with new tires and tubes my daughter will have a very nice retro townbike.

I thought this little Univega was just too cute for words. Built around 24" wheels, it is super-small. The neighborhood kids had a laugh watching me give it a test-ride. The girl who bought it couldn't have been happier, though. She had been searching for a bike her size.

Was the "Penny Farthing" added aftermarket? That bike is too cute for words! Just out of curiosity, what tyre size was that, and who made them?
Did it have eyelets on the front fork?

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Hi,
Here is another mixte in LA….She joined our family in the spring of 2005 and was promptly given the name “Paprika” by our then 2 year old daughter. Paprika was my first thrift store find and kept me entertained when major surgery interrupted surfing for a few months. As a result of wrenching with Paprika, bikes in general, and french bikes more specifically, now occupy a large part of my “spare” time- which usually happens between the hours of 10 PM and 3AM while the family is sleeping.
Paprika earns her keep around our house. She is currently my daily commuter and the weekend family hauler. The second picture is Paprika decked out in her full weekend regalia. On occasion, she can be found pulling a Burley in addition to the child seat. She does it all very reliably.
The pictures show her with two different sets of cranks. First (current) picture has her with some late-80’s Shimano 105s with biopace rings. The other picture shows some older SRs. I like how the SRs look, but the biopace are smoother, especially with the kids in tow. The nitto moustache bars are great and the bar-ends are easy to use. Crane rd and Titlist fd work well with the Cyclo 5-speed freewheel (gears are kind of close though) and Sedis chain. The Pletscher double kickstand was an expensive but useful upgrade. Even in LA the fenders are useful if not required with the Burley.
I really enjoy all the mixtes in this thread and am happy to finally share mine!

I have some Peugeot branded SR cranks on mine and love them.

Motobecane I got my wife for her birthday:
bikes 002.jpg
And no, it's not the before shot. She wanted the whitewalls, comfy seat, reflector, flipped and chopped bars... So I added them. Just need to add some lights so she can ride at night.

I thought you might like that one, East Hill. I had assumed the "Penny Farthing" decals were factory applied, but now that you ask, I'm not sure. The script style and color are a bit different from the other decals, so perhaps someone did add that aftermarket. I believe the tires were Cheng Shins, 24 x 1 1/8 as I recall. And I think it had a single eyelet on the rear side of the fork.

I was directed here to post the Raleigh Sprite I found and fixed up for my girlfriend. It's a great ride, we where out and around this afternoon getting her more confident about not having fat 26" knobby tires - she was afraid of the skinny 27" wheels. If this bike fit I would have totally kept it for myself though.

Here's a nice Mixte i picked up recently. Late 70ies Grandis (of Verona), equipped with a Shimano mix, Gran Compe brakes and a pretty paintjob

Awesome drop tube racer martl!
I finally have something to contribute to this thread.
My girlfriend and Antipodes girlfriend picked up this little beauty at a yard sale.
It's a 1982 Apollo made by Kuwahara in Japan and branded Apollo for Fred Deely who imported them to Canada. The frame is some kind of hi-tensile or medium steel but the tubing decal is obscured by an anti-theft decal. It fits my girlfriend perfectly.
It was all original except the bar and stem, but the original drop bars and long SR stem came with it. I plan to combine the SR stem with a nice set of alloy cruiser bars in the near future and replace the steel that is there now.
The OEM parts were Shimano altus and a swagged crank. Antipodes gave me a 600 crank to throw on there (had a UN-52 NIB that was 115mm and gave a great chainline) with the 40t ring from the original crank which had a press fit big ring. I then added the steel bar and stem combo over the awful crap that was on there. A Suntour Vx derailleur with a power ratchet shifter provide the perfect shifting combo. The original chain and early shimano freehub have no wear.
The little special touches include the Dia-Compe quick release cable hangers, the MKS touring pedals which Antipode graciously gave me some dustcaps for and overhauled, and the Campagnolo chainguard clamp. Don't worry it was already broken and I modified it. Unfortunately I approached it with a hacksaw before getting out the dremel and you can see the bad slit in the photo. But in the end I was happy with it especially my decision to drill out the lower pivot and tap it for a 5mm bolt. Nice to see the Italians and French working together. Also nice to use a part I thought was useless but I can't throw away campagnolo even if it's broken.
Oh, and since the photos we did a shakedown ride of her 15 minute commute to work and I moved the rack reflector to the fender. Also, yes I will be shortening the shifter cable.

From what I have gathered from B.F. C&V, a “Classic Mixte” is a frame set that has Twin Top Tubes that run at a downward angle from the Steer/Head Tube to the Seat Tube,(sometimes with a slight bend) and then beyond directly to the Dropouts. Giving it the appearance of having Three sets of stays between the Seat Tube and Dropouts.
I do know that Schwinn (as did a few others) made a step through frame that had a Single angled Top Tube, but also incorporated the extra set of Mixte type stays… someone on this thread coined the term “Near Mixtes” for that style of frame.
I’m not trying to be the “Mixte Police”, but I thought you might like to know… If anyone else has a different definition of what makes a “Mixte Frame” a mixte frame, I would enjoy learning it…

Have you figured out anymore about it, or what your going to do with it? Either way, whatever you decide to do with it, it should make someone a fine bicycle… Can't beat the price you paid...Wow.

Here's a mixte I pulled out of a dumpster and fixed up to sell last year. I put all the single-speed stuff on it that I immediately pulled off my Peugeot when I bought it. Since the mixte wasn't built when I got it I figured it was a good way to get rid of parts I wouldn't use. I sanded and re-painted the rear triangle as it was a bit sad. The paint was a near perfect match. Sorry about the seat... it's what I had on hand. Still I think the overall bike came out looking great.

It has a chain and rack and bottle cage on it now but the pink hoods haven't come in yet so I haven't done the bars in pink. Its an older Univega I built up for the wife. She loves it

Picked this one up yesterday, could not leave it. Left a mint white mixte three days ago. What can i do with them all? No mixte lowers around here, apart from me.
Pix is taken before cleanup. This is my third mixte.

Been catching up on the mixte thread and I thought I'd add 3 more that haven't been shown.
first up is a Batavus. Went to my niece as a campus bike. Mostly stock. I wonder about handle bars. Seat was replaced since the photos since it was as comfy as a concrete brick.
https://s144.photobucket.com/albums/r...OLD%20Batavus/
next is a Miyata 310. went to california bay area for my sibs
https://s144.photobucket.com/albums/r...0Miyata%20310/
Still have this one. 1976 raleigh grand prix in brown & silver
https://s144.photobucket.com/albums/r...0Grand%20Prix/
In 1974 I bought a new raleigh grand prix mixte in carmine red for my mother. Converted to straight bars then. She is still riding it, 34 years still going. Some parts updated, crank for a lower gear, aluminum rims, grips, rear rack & folding baskets.
3 of my sisters had peugeot mixtes. U08 models. Green. Yellow. White. All crashed, bent or stolen. Oh la la, those were so popular in the mid 1970s.

I want to find a mixte in about a 52-54 cm to build up for my girlfriend.
