That Carlton looks quite big. I've never been able to find a mixte my size - the local bike shops only ever seemed to have them in 17" and 19" frames. Velo Orange is bringing out mixte frames in sizes up to 57 cm next year. Having discovered that I don't really like the feel of the aluminum frame and fork on my new commuting bike, maybe I'll get one and build it up with a hub gear.
I'm told that the word "mixte" does mean "unisex", so they aren't just for women!

Far be it from me to ever laugh at a Mixte, let alone a man on a Mixte… as a matter of fact, mine has became my all time favorite bicycle. (As many bikes as I’ve had, that’s saying something)

As far as the man on the Mixte in the picture… he looks very familiar, but I just can’t put a name to his face. I would guess he is either an actor or a politician, but he could be Adam, as far as I know.

So, are you just going to leave us in the dark, or actually tell us who he is? Or, maybe just a hint would help…

You ever get tired of that one, let me know. That one's probably big enough for me to ride.

Today I acquired a candy-apple red Motobecane Grand Jubilee mixte, 48cm or thereabouts, as a graduation present for my younger sister. Gonna put on some fluted fenders and maybe a front rack (and maybe upright bars? not sure how she feels about drops), and clean up the freewheel and polish up the chrome, it should turn out great. Looks like it's got Huret Duopar derailers, Weinmann 999s, Rigida alloy rims, SR Apex double crank. Photos to come soon!

Scored a sweet '86 Fuji Allegro Mixte the other day.. $40 on CL (garage sale section). It's apparent that it has never been used, and has always been stored indoors. I think the rubber is original too, and in great shape. I can't believe how clean this thing is. The freewheel was not engaging but that was an easy fix with a blast of wd-40. Cables are the only thing it needs. I bought it to flip... but my sweetheart loves it. So, we'll probably keep it.

Heres a Bridgestone Mixte I got from a nice older lady for $20. It's now my daughters bike, and we've been out several times trying to get her used to it.

Since the photos I put a little japanese bell and some NOS handgrips (remember the sparkly ones they sold in the 70s)

Are those 27" wheels? If so than that looks like a rather large frame mixte. Have you measured to see what size that frame is? Just curious...

My Wife's Shogun Mixte 95% completed. It originally came with drop bars, Shimano tourney brakes, Shimano altus FD & RD, alloy/steel crank with non bolt on rings, alloy rims with rusty spokes and small flange hubs.

I built a pair of wheels with polished large flange Schwinn hubs, SS spokes and Ukai 27 x 1 1/4 rims, fitted polshaed Shimano Exage brakes, polished Shimano Light actiuon RD and another FD, polished SR alloy seat post and gel seat, polished Sakae SX crank and sealed BB, polishedS himano Adamas platform pedals with chrome "half" toe clips, different stem with flat bars ( the only things I still want to change) and Shimao twist grip SIS shifters, Shimano Hyperglide six speed freewheel, a new KMC Z7 chain and a new coat of paint.

I think it came up quite nicely.

1972 Carlton Mixte

Here is the build so far. Everything is new except the cranks. We even had 27" wheels built with shimano 105 hubs. It is light and tight for an old bike! Thanks to Sasha at Citizen Chain SF for all the custom work. The frame is 56cm, a pretty big mixte!IMG_04.jpgIMG_01.jpgIMG_03.jpg

Did I post this yet? Peugeot UE18 that I recently updated with all the cool tricks I learned here.

I blogged about it here and plugged the C&V forum too. Rumor has it that it will be shown in the UE18 gallery at the retro Peugeot site soon.

I just realized Mrs. Clouds wasn't in this thread...Here's a quick shot I took of it in the driveway last summer. I have no gender issues, and ride it whenever I feel like it...and you better believe I look cool doing it. It's an '85 PH 18.

edit...Also...more to come...a heartbreaking story of a Fuji mixte that I'm working on.

No idea, this was the one that came on the bike. Every now and then you'll see someone canibalize a bike like this and part it out on Ebay.

it looks like to me a wald rear rack. I put one on my bike. it is nice because it is steel and has a connector to the brake bridge. My mixte like a lot of them doesn't have connections for the seat stays.

You can see from my pic that mine has this little thingy on the brake bridge that you screw the rack into. But I could just take that off and connect that Wald straight to the bridge...THANKS AIR!!!

G0584 stamped on the right rear dropout. Haven't figured out the year on this one. It's got Dia Compe 500 brakes, Sun Tour AR derailleur, but a Spirt front derailleur. I'll see if I can come up with a better idea soon.

I know this is an old post....but, G0584 means that it was built by Giant in May, 1984.
