I don't remember ever seeing a Trek mixte. It looks like it has a single toptube, though. I don't care for that style.

Ok, finally got around to taking a pic of this Jeunet I built up for a friend. I found the frame on one of my neighbor's curb, put out for trash pickup. Paint is in rough shape but with the additon of a Campagnolo triple crank, Huret Duopar derailleur, and other parts-bin parts, it makes for a pretty nice all-arounder. I threw on a Tange 'cross fork so she could put some knobbies on it and do a little off roading too. Sorry for the so-so pic, it was taken with the camera on my cell phone.

I found a Centurion this morning at Goodwill for $25, except for tires its like showroom. The plan is to flip it this spring, but I know once my 12 year old daughter sees it it will be a member of the family. She has caught the bike collection bug somewhere.....

Nice little mixte there. Give it to your daughter, she'll love it!:D

Viva La France!

Here's a link to one of my Mixte's that I picked up, cleaned up, and now headed to a campus lady near me. Enjoy. :D Oh by the way, did I mention that I picked it up in Mswantak's neck of the woods. Sorry Mike!:D

Nice work....... poacher! :D :p

Fine with me; I've still got that '69 Pug mixte sitting on the back porch waiting for parts. One French bike project at a time.

MnHPVA Guy 11-17-06 05:35 PM

A fellow bike nut, Richard Booth, fixed up 3 nice mixtes for his wife and a couple of friends. He got rid of the "train wreck" shifting syslems and installed proper Sturmey Archer hubs. The one called "Arm in Arm" is particularly nice.

I like that arm and arm mixte. Never seen that make before. The 531 Moto is sweet!:D

Grand Bois 11-18-06 09:07 AM

The racks and bags on the Arm-In-Arm cost more than any of my bikes.

Here's another Pug mixte that I found and cleaned up for a girl at Berkeley. Really liked this one because of the generator light and moustache bars. :D

Very nice... I'd love to find some handlebars like the ones on that bike. Anyone have any idea where they can be found?

Those are Bontrager "Satellite" bars. I have a pair and they are great. They sweep back less and have less rise than typical North Road bars. The straight section for grips and controls is quite long.

AFAIK they are no longer in production, but you might still find a pair at a Trek dealer. They've been replaced by the silly looking Satellite Plus.

Sterling Mixte

I have a Sterling Sportlite Mixte. It is probably a mid '80 vintage and is in pretty good shape. I've found it difficult to get information on this brand of bikes. It looks nice in black and silver!!

Here's the Peugeot UO18 that I just finished rebuilding. Started out at 33lbs-4oz, and now weighs 25lbs-10oz as you see it with Campy record wheels and sew-ups. Kinda like putting lipstick on a pig...or pug.

That's interesting. If your scale and mine are correct, your mixte weighs only little over a pound more than the actual weight of a 56cm PX10 on 1" clinchers.

Ya, it surprised me too. My 56cm PX-10 with Normandy Competition hubs, Superchampion rims and sewups weighs 22lbs. 13 oz. using the same digital scale so the UO18 is about 3 lbs heavier. I weighed the UO18 bare frame/fork/headset and it was about 8 and a half lbs if I remember correctly.

Those aren't the wheels I run on the Mixte. The Normandy hub, 700c alloy clinchers bring the weight of the bike up to 26lbs, 13oz. Still pretty good for an old Peugeot.

I got my wife's Raleigh Super Course mixte down to 24 pounds by using Campy Record hubs, Ambrosio Montreal rims and Tufo tubulars. It's a single speed, but it has a rack and a sprung brooks on it.

You could get that UO18 down another pound or so by losing that Troxel saddle.

You could get down another 20 + pounds by handing over the bike to me!:D

The saddle is a "Gallet" (made in france) and is surprisingly light with its aluminum frame. I was going to swap out the stem and bar also, but they too are pretty light.

High Fist Shin 12-24-06 06:04 PM

Santa put this under the tree for my wife... A little red mixte. ;)
