I bought this bike at a pawn shop a year ago and I thought I was going to give it to my now ex girlfriend, I'm glad to say I'm still with the bike. This is an all original bike. So I decided to put it on Craigslist in Orlando. My dilemma is that callers are wanting to buy this for a kid and I want it to go to someone who understands this is more than an old used bike. I look at pawn shops, garage sales etc and you almost never see one in this condition, but I put 3 of my classic road bikes up for sale today and it's like parting with part of the family. I think I need cycle therapy. I'm sorry for the rambling but I just had to tell someone who may understand.

OK I understand now. as mentioned in the other post you need to do something unique. the earlier post mentions a bolt and nylon lock nut.
I am having trouble finding a pic (should not of had that 3rd Cosmo) but there is a brake adjusting barrel that bolts onto the caliper. it was like a part you used to convert brakes for use on a Mixte.

i had the hardest time figuring out what the two of you were talking about with the surly hanger. i'm liking the idea of a bolt/post and a nylock nut. i'm envisioning some sort of eye-bolt that i could slide into the vertical hole, and keep that in place with a nylock nut. assuming i can get the eyebolt threaded, i could then run a centerpull brake. my insistence on this is because the upside-down side pull brake does not inspire much confidence at speed. there's little to no modulation - it's either "barely there" or full lock. i never had such issues with center pulls on my previous mixte frames.

also: lol @ bianchigirll. i put in the longest brake-adjusting barrel that i had in my box o junk, and even if i have the pads close to the rim, they just won't do the job properly. i'm eager to hear what other suggestion you might have in store.

@macmann: it's okay - separation anxiety is a normal part of a former relationship. the bike would probably give you bad vibes for the rest of time - i've definitely had that with other belongings which are associated with former partners. i've been letting go of grail/unusual bicycles recently - it's not so bad after a while.

I picked up this Puch Pathfinder a couple of weeks ago for the low low price of $0 (in someone's front yard with a "FREE" sign on it). I've been cleaning it up in my spare time (which is nearly nil) and trying to decide what sort of tires to put on it, and whether to change out the handlebars for albatross style ones. These sorts of little decisions are always the hardest for me.

I think the Vent Noir is one of the "perfect mixte" framesets, and that one is such a fine example.

I don't mind if lots more photos are posted.

My wife and I plucked this survivor 1981 Lotus Excelle mixte from our local craigslist. The bike was originally purchased as a gift for the seller's now ex-wife in 1981 and was only ridden around the block a few times before being hung on a hook in the family garage. The Excelle still sports all the original components including the bar tape, reflectors, Kashimax Super saddle and IRC HP90 tires.

The bike needed a good cleaning and complete maintenance of all the bearings, we added the shorty fenders and the Nagaoka (OEM Lotus) rack. The Zefal pump was purchased new with the bike back in 1981. The Lotus water bottle and OGK branded bottle cage is mounted to the handlebar with a Minoura BH-60 mount.

Lotus offered quite a few mixte models over the years, but the Excelle was always their the top-of-the-line mixte and featured (in 1981) Ukai 27" alloy rims and Shimano 600 Arabesque shifting. The only parts not upgraded from steel to aluminum were the headset, seat adjuster and pedal bodies. The frame was Tange Champion Cr-Mo with forged vertical dropouts.

wow, what a rash of outstanding mixte's lately: norn's puch, that astro?, the soma (drool!), and the lotus (what I always dream of - finding an ultra lo-miles vintage bike that's been stored properly). really fine bikes. some are even set up the way I like 'em.

I'm going to have to post some of mine. I've got two restored/updated Peugeots that I ride regularly and one Nisiki on the hook waiting restoration.

I got this prestine low use hanged for 25 years Shogun for my wife, but she doesn't like it and wants something more upright.
I want to keep it all original and possible trade it with someone local in the LA area for regular none drop bars.

Yes, Weinman. I was really fortunate with mine as it had seen very little use.

I have changed them to a brown Matrix set from a Trek 400 that I had upgraded, it looks fantastic.


Recently found a Suteki (Panasonic) Track 10 in original (even tires) and mint condition.

This is a 74 Peugeot Uo8 Mixtie, was mine, love the style (in Europe the mixte is a unisex bike for ride. Now my wife won't give it back to me officially.

I had this frame and was gonna sell it as a basic single speed with some leftover wheels that were kicking around but when I started riding it, I decided I needed to keep it and I did need a frame with good clearance for the SA 5 speed wheelset I built for winter riding. The frame works alright for the drum brakes' cable routing and the SA shifter cable too. I also don't have any toe overlap with the front fender anymore either... I can live with the frame being too small for now... if I ever get around to building a frame I'll make a proper sized mixte based on this one's geometry

3 speed with coaster brake.
flat aluminum fenders.
700c wheels.
nice riding bike. IMO, the curvy tubes make it vertically flexible and that smooths out the bumps.

Here is mine! 1974 Peugeot UO-18 in that lovely vivid green. Fresh off of Craigslist for $50 (which felt like a deal but was probably fair). I just put on new tires, cables, etc. It came with the widest handlebars that I've ever seen... oh, and of course, an AVA death stem. So I need to figure out what I'm going to do about that.
